Course form is vital in any race here at Epsom and Multamis won nicely over eight-and-a-half furlongs here two starts ago. Last time out, however, Owen Burrow’s charge finished a distant last as he stepped up in trip and I don’t like to side with horses on the back of such a poor performance, especially when they are running off a career-high mark.

Agent Basterfield is a consistent performance who will have no trouble seeing out the trip, but I doubt whether he, or the rest of the runners, will be able to deny ALLEGIANT a second course victory.

Stuart Williams’ charge has won just once in nine career starts and that victory came here at Epsom last year, where Allegiant made all to win nicely under Silvestre De Sousa. After starting the season with two solid placed efforts, Williams’ charge really struggled on soft ground around Sandown and Allegiant was sent on a bounce-back mission to Epsom to see if he could repeat the winning run he produced in 2018.

Sadly, the son of City Zip ran into a very well-handicapped sort in Mr Scaramanga, who clocked an RPR of 90 in taking victory. Yet, Allegiant proved again he was perfectly suited to Epsom with a fine staying-on second.

A low draw meant Allegiant encountered plenty of traffic problems that day and he could have pushed Mr Scaramanga even harder had his path to the post not been blocked. Oisin Murphy shouldn’t have to worry about those issues after being drawn kindly in stall five and Allegiant has proved on a couple of occasions that he’s capable of winning off his current mark of 72.
