Horse for courses is an adage that rings especially loudly here at Haydock. Both over jumps and on the flat, certain horses take a real liking to the Merseyside venue and course form around Haydock is often vitally important. So, with little appealing in opposition, the stage looks set for ALEMARATALYOUM (NAP) to equal Safe Voyage’s impeccable record of four wins from four runs around this track.

Now with Stuart Williams, the third trainer of his career, Alemaratalyoum has been handed some harsh assignments this season. Williams’ five-year-old has carried long-odds in the Victoria Cup, the Bunbury Cup and the Gigaset International Handicap, losing comfortably in all three of those lucrative races.

A straight seven-furlongs on summer ground has never been Alemaratalyoum’s cup of tea and his results on turning tracks have been much better. First, losing out by just half-a-length at Epsom when carrying 9-11 on his back, before an excellent run up at Chester last time out, where Alemaratalyoum pushed the impressive Oh This Is Us all the way to the line.

Alemaratalyoum, as we mentioned earlier, boasts a perfect record here at Haydock, winning three times during the second half of last season. Jason Watson’s mount has also recorded a couple of victories on heavy ground, so the rain that’s due to hit Haydock tomorrow morning won’t worry the favourite one jot. At 9/4, he looks an excellent bet.
