Three-year-olds have come out on top in all-but-two editions of this Group Three and, the more I look at it, the more I think PROMISSORY (NAP) won’t be beaten in this year’s Muhaarar Stakes.
Promissory is beautifully bred. By Dubawi and the first foal out of Seal Of Approval, who claimed a shock victory in the Champion Fillies’ And Mares’ on Champions Day in 2014. John Gosden has had to be patient with his three-year-old since handing Promissory her stable debut at Goodwood back in May, where she shaped well in finishing third behind stablemate Terebellum and future two-time winner, Maamora.
Under a confident ride by Frankie Dettori, Promissory then bolted up in a maiden at Doncaster and, after a fifty-day break, ran Sir Ron Priestley very close over 14 furlongs in the March Stakes at Goodwood. Considering that was just her third career appearance, that was an excellent effort in a high-quality Group Three and the winner boosted it’s form with a fine second behind Logician in the St Leger.
Gosden has been having a fantastic season with his fillies, Promissory has proven her staying ability over further trips than this and she’s got the best jockey in the business sitting in her saddle. I can’t see any reason why Promissory won’t bounce back to winning ways on Friday.
