2:25pm Ascot Porsche Handicap (Class 2) 1m

Beatboxer, despite a very good handicap win at York earlier in the season, has failed to build on the promise he showed as a juvenile and looks a very risky proposition under the burden of top-weight. Wings Of Time ran well to win a valuable handicap on the opening day of the July Meeting, but he only got over the line by a neck that day and could struggle after a six-pound rating hike.

Sash brings winning form into Ascot, albeit in a race of much lower standard than this. The form of Rod Millman’s stable means Prince Of Harts deserves a mention, but he was comfortably beaten off this mark in a Class Three contest the last time he was seen.

So, with little standing out in opposition, the stage looks set for MOTAKHAYYEL (NAP) to build on the from-the-front victory he secured in a very similar handicap at the July Festival.

Despite slipping to the bottom of the betting that day, Richard Hannon’s colt controlled the bet365 Mile Handicap, leading the five-runner field along down the centre of the track before pulling clear to beat Flashcard by a couple of lengths. Chris Hayes still had to deal with a few signs of greenness, with his mount swerving a little as he met the rising ground, but the way Motakhaayel saw off some more fancied runners and put the race to bed was impressive.

This isn’t exactly a step up in quality and the handicappers decision to raise Motakhayyel up the ratings by six pounds doesn’t seem excessive. Jim Crowley has been riding well of late, winning with 27% of his rides over the past two weeks and I expect the former Champion Jockey will give the favourite another confident ride.
