Normally the go-to man at the Galway Festival, Dermot Weld is yet to record a winner so far this week. I’m going to bank on Weld’s barren time in Ballybrit coming to an end on Saturday, as TIME TUNNEL carries the tag of favouritism into this large-field maiden.

Following a seventh-place finish on debut, Weld’s filly has been narrowly beaten into second in maidens at Leopardstown and Killarney. First, losing out to Morpho Blue, who won again straight after that success and was last seen running in a Listed contest. His second defeat came at the hands of Tauran Shaman, who has come out and boosted that form this week by claiming victory in a one-mile handicap on day three.

Weld employed a rug to help Time Tunnel stay calm as he entered the stalls at Galway. Although Frankie Dettori’s mount was beaten, he still registered an improved performance and the top two pulled a decent way clear of the rest. Oisin Orr will be eager to hand Weld a winner after coming up just short in a Listed race on day four and Time Tunnel looks perfectly placed to run well after drawing stall three.
