2:25pm Coral Challenge (Handicap) (Class 2) 1m

Another wide open renewal of this fascinating handicap, with the bookmakers currently going 6/1 the field. In this sort of handicap, following the late money could be the way to go. However, I think the handicapper has been very lenient on VIA SERENDIPITY after a career-best effort last time out and Stuart Williams’ charge has a wonderful opportunity to follow up with a second course-and-distance triumph here at Sandown.Following two defeats in very competitive seven furlong handicaps, William’s five-year-old bounced back to winning ways in a hot-handicap over a mile at Chelmsford last month. Despite getting an easy time of things on the front-end, Via Serendipity was being eased down by the time he crossed the line a five-length victor. He was handed a career-best RPR of 107 and a fresh all-weather mark of 104 after that bloodless triumph, so he looks really well treated running off his turf mark of 97.

11 months ago, Via Serendipity scored on his debut here at Sandown, before finishing a three-length third behind Tigre Du Terre in this very race. Two starts later, Williams’ charge scored at the Shergar Cup off a mark just two pounds below the 97 rating he’ll carry into battle on Saturday.

Via Serendipity has excellent course form in the book, he’ll be on a big high after that Chelmsford triumph and Australian star, Kerrin McEvoy is a very interesting jockey booking. At 8/1, he could be my best bet of the day.
