COMPANY MINX (8/1, William Hill) was too green to do herself any real justice on her debut at Windsor back in May, but the Fast Company filly put that experience to good use to win next time up at Lingfield where she stepped up to six furlongs and ran out a nose winner over Laikaparty.

That success was followed up by a near miss back at Windsor where Clive Cox’s charge was only beaten around three-parts of a length behind Love Powerful, and that form is working out well a pair of subsequent winners coming out of that contest.

She makes her handicap debut here from a potentially lenient opening mark, and with the potential to improve she could be worth siding with to get back on the scoresheet here in what looks a competitive opening contest to the second day of the St Leger Festival meeting.

2:40 – Dfs Park Hill Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m6½f

This race been a happy hunting ground for four-year olds, with seven of the last ten winners representing that age group; ENBIHAAR (5/4, Ladbrokes) then could be the answer to this Group Two puzzle, and the Redoute’s Choice filly can successfully concede weight all round to some smart rivals.

John Gosden’s charge has been hugely progressive this term, winning three of her four starts which include a pair of Group Two contests at Haydock and Goodwood respectively.

The former came in the Lancashire Oaks where she struck by a neck over Dramatic Queen; but she seemed to find further improvement stepping up to this trip latterly where she ran out a convincing winner of the Lillie Langtry Stakes with a five lengths’ defeat of Manuela De Vega.

She had both the reopposing pair of Peach Tree and South Sea Pearl behind her that day, and a repeat of that effort could make her difficult to beat despite the concession of 10lbs and more to this field of rivals.

3:15 – Weatherbys Racing Bank £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes Cl2 (2yo) 6½f

It remains to be seen if another hard race at York has taken anything out of Harpocrates who has had a busy spell; but Aidan O’Brien’s charge – one of three in the race for the Ballydoyle maestro – has to be feared with a repeat of that effort which saw him finish runner-up behind Valdemoro where he was only run down late.

A chance though is taken on Gimcrack third REPARTEE (7/1, Bet365) who was no match for Threat on the Knavesmire, but he had run well in Listed company at Newbury the time before when finishing two lengths’ fourth behind Shadn.

Kevin Ryan’s Invincible Spirit colt had made a winning debut at York back in May, beating Forbidden Land by five lengths and looking a potentially smart sort, and there wasn’t much wrong with his third last time where be bumped into a good sort.

The yard took this race last year, and the Invincible Spirit colt could be sorted by this stiff extended six furlongs test so every chance he can find improvement to get back on the winning trail.

3:45 – William Hill May Hill Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (2yo) 1m

BOOMER (6/1, Bet365) had the subsequent Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes winner Dark Lady behind when landing a second win of the campaign at Goodwood in the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood latest, and Tom Dascombe’s charge can land a hat-trick here.

The Kingman filly build on a promising debut where she needed the run to get off the mark at Newbury on her second start, impressively landing the odds with a defeat of Deep Snow by almost four lengths.

That success was bettered next time in Group company and there may be even better still to come. This is tougher, but she is open to plenty of improvement still and it would be no surprise to see her posting a big run here taking on some similarly progressive rivals.

4:20 – Silk Series Lady Riders’ Handicap (Pro-Am Lady Riders’ Race) Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 6f

SALUTI (8/1, William Hill) hasn’t won for a while, but he has run a string of creditable efforts since wind surgery in the wake of his switch to Stuart Williams, and it could be worth chancing on the Acclamation gelding to end his losing streak.

The Williams runner has made the frame in his last two starts, finishing runner-up at Pontefract prior to landing a bronze medal at Thirsk latest behind Queen’s Sargent. That was over seven furlongs though, and he should appreciate the sharper test this time around dropped back to six furlongs.

He has been raised 2lbs in the weights following that latest run, but he remains well-treated on old form having won last term when rated in the 80s, and with Georgia Cox taking a valuable 3lbs off in this lady riders’ contest he ought to remain competitive and every chance that he could go close.

4:55 – Magners Rose Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 1m2f

Good Birthday won well at Beverley last time, but the Dabirsim colt will likely need to find another jolt of improvement and DAVYDENKO (11/8, Bet365) gets the vote to register another win.

Sir Michael Stotues’ charge is 3-4 this term, striking wins at Windsor and Thirsk earlier in the season prior to disapppointing in a big field at Ascot when contesting the Britannia Stakes.

Despite that lesser run he quickly bounced back to post a three lengths’ success over Good Fortune at Newmarket latest, scoring readily and beating a decent pair from the Godolphin yard in the process.

The handicapper hasn’t missed him with an 8lbs rise in the weights, but he can continue to progress and every chance he can win again with this longer trip potentially pulling out more progress in the Intello colt.

5:30 – Dfs Handicap Cl2 (3yo 0-100) 7f

The day two finale can go the way of I COULD DO BETTER (10/1, Bet365) who could live up to his name having found Pattern company too hot to handle the last twice.

The Canford Cliffs gelding was a treble-winner for previous handler Keith Dalgleish, scoring wins at Redcar, Carlisle and Catterick prior to joining the Ian Williams camp where his sights were immediately raised.

He contested the Thoroughbred Stakes at Goodwood on his debut for Williams, eventually finishing sixth behind Dukes Of Hazzard where he raced keenly throughout and possibly failed to get home over the one mile trip.

Dropped to six furlongs at Newmarket for his latest outing in the Listed Hopeful Stakes, he could only beat one horse home behind Raucous although might have found six furlongs too sharp on that occasion.

He could prove a different proposition back over seven furlongs and making his handicap debut where an opening mark of 94 may prove workable, and with a first-time hood a possible source of improvement he could be worth chancing at a nice price to get back on the scoresheet.
