Templegate’s TV Tips (The Sun)

1.50 BARBADOS (9/2 Coral) is a hot tip for the Bahrain Trophy. Aidan O’Brien’s hope ran a belter when beaten just half a length in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot when the ground was on the soft side. He had a wide draw to contend with that day and couldn’t get on the lead like he prefers. Conditions might not have been ideal, either, as his sole win came at Navan on much quicker ground and this sort of trip should be the making of him. I’m expecting him to get rolling on the front end and that will make him very hard to pass.

2.25 Join useful GUILDSMAN (7/2 Mr Green) in the Tattersalls July Stakes. He was only beaten three-quarters of a length in the Coventry on the opening day of Royal Ascot. That was a splendid effort and the rain hadn’t really arrived so the ground wasn’t as soft as it was later in the day. Today’s conditions will be completely different and that is the main concern as he seemed to handle soft ground when he bolted up on his debut. I’m willing to take the risk as, given there was only 11 days between his two runs, a short break since Ascot could have done him the world of good.

3.00 Sherlock Holmes might struggle for clues in this hot sprint handicap but I’m sure we’re on the right track with RATHBONE (16/1 bet365). He had some good form last season despite failing to get his head in front. There’s little doubt he improved over the winter and he kicked off this term with wins at Pontefract and Leicester. The easy ground and high draw was against him at York and he looks way over-priced today.

3.35 Last year’s Derby hero MASAR (11/10 Coral) should get his career back on track in this Group 2. He’s been dogged by bad luck since giving Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby his first win in racing’s greatest Classic. Injury kept him off the track between Epsom last year and last month’s Royal Ascot. His comeback was almost over before it started as he nearly unshipped James Doyle having stumbled coming out of the stalls. I’m expecting him to improve lot for that first run in more than a year.

4.05 Daily Times (7/2 bet365)

4.40 Momkin (NAP) (9/4 Mr Green)

5.10 Global Gift (5/1 Coral)

Captain Heath’s Double (The Daily Mail)

2.25 Guildsman (7/2 Coral)

4.40 Turgenev (13/8 Mr Green)
