Gun Merchant comes into this on the back of a bumper victory and Gordon Elliott’s charge is respected on his hurdles debut. He’ll be hard push to stop RAYA TIME (NAP) though, who should be too good for this sort of field as he begins his second season over hurdles.

Henry De Bromhead’s gelding enjoyed a consistent first campaign as a jumper, without managing to enter the winners’ enclosure. Raya Time managed to place in four of his six outings, crossing the line third behind City Island and Dallas Des Pictons on debut, before running Annamix very close over course-and-distance, where Rachel Blackmore’s mount was giving Willie Mullins’ mare plenty of weight.

To end his novice campaign, De Bromhead gave his novice a run in a big handicap hurdle during the Punchestown Festival. Raya Time looked a little outclassed in that sort of company, finishing a well-beaten eighth as Pearl Of The West stormed to victory. This represents a marked drop in quality and Raya Time and boasts some useful form over the obstacles here at Clonmel to further bolster his claims. 2/1 looks an excellent price.
