Lord Of The Lodge brings the strongest piece of form into this race, having run Middle Park contender, Threat close in the Gimcrack Stakes. The ground, however, is a bit of a worry, considering how poorly he performed on similar going at Newbury earlier in the season and his breeding doesn’t suggest the step up to seven furlongs is a natural move.

Oh Purple Reign has gotten closer to Pinatubo than anyone else has managed this term and come in on the back of a decent second in Group Three company. Persuasion is worth a second look too, but Aidan O’Brien’s runners in pattern races have been in excellent form this month and WICHITA (NAP) could be hard to beat.

This son of No Nay Never did something not many Ballydoyle horses do on debut, claiming victory at the first time of asking in a maiden at the Curragh. O’Brien then sent Wichita over to Doncaster to take part in the Flying Scotsman Stakes and Ryan Moore’s mount ran a lovely race, losing out to favourite Molatham by just half-a-length.

No Nay Never’s progeny often go well on softer ground and Wichita is just one of two runners in this field to have already won over seven furlongs. O’Brien’s horses often take well to the challenges posed to the Rowley Mile and there have been several winners of the Somerville Stakes who have won after just two career starts.
