Being by Lope De Vega, Spanish Archer should be alright on bottomless ground, but he’s completely untested over a mile-and-a-half and this 12-furlong trip will take some-getting on this ground. Both Spirit Ridge and Indianapolis are proven over this distance, but neither have ever run on ground softer than good, let alone heavy.

With conditions in his favour, this could go the way of GETCHAGETCHAGETCHA (NAP), who was my NAP at a crazy price at Goodwood and Clive Cox’s colt will definitely improve on the fourth-place finish he registered in Listed company that day.

Following a decent effort at Royal Ascot, Cox gave his three-year-old a summer holiday, dropping him back to ten furlongs on his reappearance to contest last month’s Foundation Stakes. I felt Getchagetchagetcha was severely overpriced that day, NAPing him at odds of 14/1 and I was pleased with the position Adam Kirby held turning for home. When Kirby’s bold bid to claim the stands’ rail failed, he found himself behind a wall of runners and had virtually no chance from that point. Kirby dragged his mount towards the centre of the track and Cox will have been pleased to see his returning charge plug on down the home straight to finish fourth. Stepping back up to a mile-and-a-half is a sensible move for a horse who looks a dour stayer in the making. Getchagetchagetcha also brings strong course form into this race, having beaten 106-rated Arthur Kitt in a Conditions race over this distance earlier in the campaign. Not only will Getchagetchagetcha handle the conditions better than his three rivals, but he’ll also be claiming some valuable pounds on all three at the weights. I’m hoping my faith in this talented young colt will be rewarded on Tuesday!
