Facts and figures – Vital stats to help you find some Wednesday winners
We list the key trainer and jockey stats for every meeting today and highlight some horses’ punters might want to side with on Wednesday 24th July.
Six good-quality cards will be staged across Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, with Catterick and Sandown’s meetings headlining proceedings. Here are some key stats to help point you in the right direction and, hopefully, find some winners!
Bath may not be the first course that springs to mind when you mention MARK JOHNSTON, but Britain’s winning-most trainer has scored with six of his 17 runners here this year. No jockey has ridden more winners around Bath than FRANNY NORTON in 2019 and, together with Johnston, they have been striking at 20% with their runners throughout the current campaign.
Norton and Johnston combined with two runners at Bath tomorrow. TOO HARD TO HOLD could get off the mark in the Novice Stakes at 2:30pm, but their best chance of a winner will be with WELCOMING, who carries some good form into the Rainbow Casino Cardiff Handicap.
DANNY TUDHOPE will look to continue his quest to be crowned Champion Flat Jockey at Catterick on Wednesday, a course around which he’s won with over 40% over his runners so far during 2019.
DAVID O’MEARA issued a rallying cry for northern trainer to aid Tudhope’s Champion Jockey bid this weekend. He too boasts a strong record around this track this year and he’s handed Tudhope two plum rides – first with OLLIVANDER in a Claiming Stakes, before TOMILY attempts to seal a hat-trick in Catterick’s feature race of the day.
Tudhope’s title rival, OISIN MURPHY has an excellent record when riding on Lingfield’s all-weather track. Murphy has won with 10 of his 35 runners here in 2019, and his winning strike rate of 20% over the past five seasons is bettered only by Jim Crowley.
When Murphy has teamed up with ARCHIE WATSON over the past two weeks, they’ve scored a 33% of the time, a stats which should give FASHION FREE’S chances in the Nursery Handicap at 4:20pm a significant boost.
JIM CROWLEY has been riding supreme well of late, winning with almost 30% of his rides during the last couple of weeks. The former Champion Jockey has also enjoyed plenty of success here at Sandown, winning the same number of winners at James Doyle and Oisin Murphy since 2014.
Crowley has three rides at Sandown tomorrow, with his best chance coming onboard on Roger Varian’s MORAWEED in the feature race at 7:35pm. If he can return to the form he showed when winning on his second start of the season back in April, he could be very hard to beat.
SAEED BIN SUROOR has won with six of his last 14 runners. Three of the eight runners he has sent to Leicester this season gave also claimed victory. Jockey, CALLUM SHEPHERD is also in good form, winning with three of his last ten rides.
VOLCANIC SKY came close to winning a good-quality handicap last time out and should be a big player carrying top-weight into the Burton Handicap tomorrow evening. He looks a good bet to continue bin Suroor’s recent hot-streak.
Only Colin Keane has ridden more winners at Naas than DONNACHA O’BRIEN this season, with O’Brien the younger scoring with almost 30% of his 24 rides here during 2019.
AIDAN O’BRIEN has more than twice the amount of winners around this track than his nearest rival has managed in 2019 and he’s handed Donnacha a number of key rides on Wednesday afternoon, with HARPOCRATES offering the father and son combo a strong winning opportunity in the maiden at 6:20pm.
