4:50pm Salisbury Shadwell Racing Excellence Apprentice Handicap (Whips Shall Be Carried But Not Used) (Div I) (Class 5) 7f
This apprentice handicap should go the way of STAY FOREVER, who has only been upped two pounds after a comfortable victory last time out and the softening ground could play directly into the favourite’s hands.
Andrew Balding’s filly finally broke her maiden tag at the eleventh time of asking at Sandown, cruising into the race from the rear before asserting in the final furlong. Marie Perrault gave Stay Forever a confident ride that day and she will bid to make it two-from-two on this daughter of Harbour Watch, taking a valuable five-pounds off her back in the process.
Balding has his horses running well at the minute and only Richard Hannon has saddled more winners at Salisbury then he over the past five years. Stay Forever may have got off the mark over a mile, but there’s plenty of rain in the air around Salisbury tomorrow and that should ensure this becomes quite an attritional seven furlongs. The handicapper has provided this filly with the ideal opportunity to build on last month’s success.
