Day 2 of the York Festival is Ladies’ day with fillies and mares dominating proceedings. The Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks is the feature race with brilliant Epsom Oaks winner Love expected to start a hot favourite. The race could see a head-to-head clash with dual Arc winner Enable if she bypasses the Juddmonte International on Wednesday. Our York Ebor Festival Tips Day 2 includes the Group 2 Lowther Stakes, the Listed Galtres Stakes and the valuable Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes.
Thursday 13:55 York Tips: Sky Bet Lowther Stakes
Day 2 begins with a Group 2 contest for two-year-old fillies over six furlongs. Favourites have a moderate record here with only Tiggy Wiggy (2014) and Fairyland (2018) proving successful in the past ten years. Shock results are rare with last year’s winner Living In The Past (12-1) returning the longest starting price during that period.
The Lowther Stakes produced subsequent 1000 Guineas winners Harayir (1994), Cape Verdi (1997), and Russian Rhythm (2002). Fillies who ran well at Ascot on their previous start have a good record in this race and may be worth noting for your York day 2 bets.
Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes
The Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes offers huge prize money and was won by a remarkable 11 lengths by Mums Tipple in 2019. Richard Hannon’s colt looked a certain future Group race winner that day but has so far struggled to reproduce that effort. He was Hannon’s third winner of this valuable prize in the past four years so his entries will be worth a second look. The same applies to William Haggas, successful for three successive seasons from 2013 to 2015.
Clipper Logistics Handicap
The Clipper Logistics Handicap is a very competitive race over a mile. The race often attracts runners from the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot and the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket. It has proved something of a graveyard for favourites in recent years with none proving successful in the past ten years. Mont Ras (2013) was a 25-1 winner for David O’Meara who also won with 8-1 shot Firmament (2016).
Darley Yorkshire Oaks
The feature race on day 2 of the York Festival is the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks for fillies and mares over a mile and a half. Enable (2017, 2019) became only the third horse to win this race twice and a record third victory is a possibility. A record-breaking third Arc victory is her main objective and she has the option of running here or in Wednesday’s Juddmonte International.
Enable started at the prohibitive odds of 1-4 for both of her victories in a race which has often been won by the favourite. There have been five successful favourites in the past ten seasons with three-year-olds having the best record. If Enable does take part, it will set up a mouth-watering clash with English 1000 Guineas and Oaks winner Love. Aidan O’Brien’s filly won by 9 lengths at Epsom and would be very difficult to oppose if lining up here.
Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes
The Listed Galtres Stakes is also reserved for fillies and mares over a mile and a half on Ladies’ Day. Dermot Weld saddled Search For A Song as a winning favourite last year, ridden by Oisin Murphy. Frankie Dettori is the leading jockey in the history of the race, winning it for a seventh time aboard Lah Ti Dar for John Gosden in 2018.
EBF Fillies’ Stakes
Punters were left scratching their heads last year when 66-1 outsider Excellent Times won here for Tim Easterby. David O’Meara trained Dutch Rose to win this in successive seasons in 2012-13 and was also successful with Lincoln Rocks in 2017. He was represented by Agincourt last year who only failed by a head to improve his record in the race.
York Day Two Betting Offers
All eyes will be on Aidan O’Brien’s Love in the Yorkshire Oaks and she could feature prominently in York Day Two betting offers. It is difficult to see anything beating her unless Enable is switched from the Juddmonte International on Wednesday. Betway offered new customers 33-1 Enable for last year’s Yorkshire Oaks to a £1 stake, a great way to kick-start your new account!
York Tips Tomorrow
The highlight of York Day 3 is the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes. Many tipsters will make Battaash their NAP of the day as he bids to follow up last year’s comfortable success. Those seeking better value may side with Art Power, a flying grey trained by Tim Easterby. Mark Johnston’s Nayef Road could benefit from the likely absence of Gold Cup winner Stradivarius in the Lonsdale Cup after chasing him home at Ascot and Goodwood.
