Form & Verdict
Encouraging fourth of six finishers on second chase start over C&D (good) in November but failed to build on that when pulled up at Market Rasen (3m, soft) 15 days later; dropped 2lb and may be worth another chance.

0-5 over hurdles and 1-14 as a chaser; clearly difficult to win with but arrives here in a good run of form and always a chance that new headgear might give him a lift; an assured stayer.

His sole success came when landing this race last year (good to firm) in first-time cheekpieces off 3lb lower mark; has ran with credit since when placed and his second at Ludlow (3m, good to soft) in February will have set him up nicely for a repeat bid.

Scored over hurdles at Exeter in April and promising second on chase debut at Uttoxeter (3m, soft) in May; absent since but holds claims if he is ready to roll; a market watch is best advised.

Maiden point winner in May; showed nothing more than minor promise in three maiden/novice hurdles this autumn (2m-3m) but made a reasonable start over fences on handicap debut when fifth of 12 finishers at this track (2m5f, good to soft) last month; steps up in trip and may show improvement.

Fair effort over fences here last time (3m1f handicap, good to soft) with the cheekpieces back on and they're retained with an additional tongue-tie, a combination that worked well in points; now tackles his first handicap over hurdles; hard to dismiss.

Verdict

The horse with the most scope for improvement here is winning hurdler MISTER BARCLAY who made an encouraging debut over fences when second at Uttoxeter in May and a chance is taken that he can improve following eight months off. Camulus must be considered from the Venetia Williams yard but the main danger could be Anytrixwilldo who disappointed last time but ran well when fourth over C&D in November. [Andrew Bladen]
