Lucky 15 bets explained
A Lucky 15 bet is a system bet – that is, it’s a series of bets combined in order to maximise your chances of a decent return while making sure that if all your selections do not come in, you’ll still have the good chance of a decent return and even a sizeable profit.
A Lucky 15 bet consists of four selections and a total of fifteen bets – hence Lucky ’15’ – as follows:
4 x single bets
6 x double bets
4 x treble bets
1 x accumulator
In short, every possible combined bet – as well as four singles – is covered in your Lucky 15 wager. Note, do not confuse a ‘Lucky 15’ bet with a ‘Yankee’ bet. A Yankee is the same as a Lucky 15 except that there are no singles, so it only consists of eleven bets.
Why are Lucky 15s so popular?
The dream part of a Lucky 15 bet is the accumulator. If all four selected horses are winners then the chances are you’re in for a supreme prize pot. You may ask yourself why not place an accumulator instead? The answer to this question is that with a Lucky 15 bet you would receive a pleasant return even if one of your selections fails.
Say, for example, you placed a £15 acca on four selections of 2/1, 3/1, 4/1 and 5/1. All four winners would net you £5,400 – nice! – but if any of your selections fail, then you win nothing.
Take the same scenario with a £15 Lucky 15 bet – fifteen bets of £1. All four winners would still net you £839, but, say the 4/1 comes in second. Instead of winning nothing as you would with your acca, you would still win £139.
How to place a Lucky 15 bet
Every sports book operates in a similar fashion, but the sports book you use may have the odd quirk. What follows is a general overview of how to play a Lucky 15 bet.
Head on over to your favourite sports book or open an account at one we recommend and make a deposit.
Click on the tab for ‘Horse Racing’.
Add your four selections to your betting slip but DO NOT click ‘Place Bet’ on any of them.
At the bottom of your betting slip you should see an option ‘Show all multiples’ or something similar. Click that option.
‘Lucky 15’ should appear on the drop down list of options. Select your stake then click ‘Place Bet’ – your Lucky 15 bet should now be placed.
Which bookmakers offer Lucky 15 wagers?
Because system bets such as Lucky 15 wagers are extremely popular with horse racing punters, nearly every online bookmaker will offer the opportunity to place a Lucky 15 wager. Even if your chosen bookmaker does not, then as long as they have a licence to provide horse racing betting markets, you can construct a ‘Lucky 15’ yourself by placing the necessary singles, doubles, trebles and accumulator yourself, using your four selections.
What you must understand is that not all bookmakers are the same – review our pages to find out which online bookmakers we feel are the best, where you’ll get the best experience, service, deals, bonuses and promotions.
How do we select our Lucky 15 tips?
We select our Lucky 15 tips the same way that we select all of our tips – by studying the racing form and using our years of experience in the online betting arena. We’ve been very successful throughout the years, and we thoroughly expect to continue to be so.
Picking out Lucky 15 tips is a genuine skill – it’s no good just picking out four ‘sure fire’ winners as the odds will not be all that attractive, and you’d barely win a thing if one of the selections fails. Instead it’s the trick of striking a balance between a decent chance of winnings and value odds, so you’ll maximise your return no matter how many selections win. That’s the reasoning behind our Lucky 15 tips and why you should pay attention to them.
