Won four of his five races at three, the exception when a close-up fifth behind Carmers in the 1m6f Queen's Vase; improved with cheekpieces, winning a five-runner 1m5f Group 3 at Newmarket by almost 9l and mastering older stablemate Illinois in the Goodwood Cup (2m, good); dug deep to hold off Rahieb on soft ground in the St Leger (Carmers fifth); top-class stayer.

Unbeaten with cheekpieces added for his last six starts, including this race last year (outbattled an in-form Illinois), the St Leger at Doncaster (by a neck from Rahiebb) that September and last month's 2m4f Gold Cup at Royal Ascot; had proven fitness on his side against the reappearing Trawlerman when inching ahead close home in their magnificent duel for the Gold Cup, but his stayers' crown is unlikely to be relinquished without a mighty effort whatever the circumstances.

Plenty went wrong for him in the Queen's Vase here one year ago (still a close fifth) but unbeaten with cheekpieces added for his five starts since; that includes the St Leger at Doncaster (by a neck from Rahiebb) in September and two 1m6f events this spring (familiar route to this race for his stable) but also, and perhaps most tellingly, the 2m Goodwood Cup last July in which he asserted late on from last year's Gold Cup second; high class and there's plenty in those 1m6f/2m performances which suggests he will be a thorough stayer.

Won Leopardstown Group 3 in April 2024 (1m2f, heavy); last win was at Dundalk early last year; no match for Leinster in a St Leger trial at the Curragh last August; twice placed in small-field AW events during the winter; well held in third behind Layfayette at the Curragh early this month; up against it.

Group 3 winner over 1m2f at three; losing sequence stands at 14 since a Dundalk win early last year; flattered by his proximity to star stayer Scandinavia in a 1m6f Listed race at Navan in April; remote seventh behind Illinois in the Queen Alexandra; should not be ruled out on handicap debut.

Form & Verdict
Consistent last season apart from a poor run in the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot. went close in a 1m2f Group 3 at the Curragh in May; Listed winner at Gowran (1m4f, good) in July before runner-up in Group 2 and Group 3 (both over 1m7f on very soft ground) in France; failed to show his best form when fourth behind Layfayette on reappearance at the Curragh.

Close second in 1m7f French Group 2 (on very soft) last October remains his best form; he has a competitive handicap mark, though, as he showed when running on well from off the pace to be fourth of 17 to Opportunity at Royal Ascot (1m4f) last time; Ryan Moore stays on board; Irish St Leger entry with strong claims back up in trip.

His 1m2f Group 3 run here (40-1) was the only blip from him last season; close second in 1m7f French Group 2 last October looks his best form but his handicap mark has fallen and plenty of ability remains; the biggest question may be whether this trip is now on the short side.

Consistent last season, going close in 1m2f Group 3 Gallinule Stakes here and later in year twice runner-up in Longchamp Group contests over 1m7f; first two runs this term at 1m6f were creditable, drop back 1m4f didn't suit latest; drops to handicap company and back to ideal trip.

Stepped outside of handicap company (fourth in Chester Cup and in Ascot Stakes) to win a four-runner St Leger Trial at the Curragh last August, readily brushing aside front-running Dallas Star in the final furlong; faced a very stiff task but ran no sort of race when tailed off in the Irish St Leger.

Last year's Queen's Vase winner over this trip and beaten a little over 3l when fifth of seven in St Leger; stepped up to 2m and switched from blinkers to a visor at Down Royal in May when beating Layfayette (recd 4lb) by over 2l, with Dallas Star further back; found 2m4f and far more demanding company too much for him in the Gold Gold; softening ground at York has seen him rerouted from yesterday's Lonsdale Stakes, and this is more winnable; tongue-tie added.

Won last May/June in his first three races, notably the 1m6f Queen's Vase at this meeting (good to firm) where he seized the initiative entering the straight and finished with three of today's rivals snapping at his heels; Scandinavia and Rahiebb comfortably turned the tables on him in the St Leger at Doncaster in September, however; latest start may have bolstered hopes, as he stepped up to 2m and switched from blinkers to a visor when well on top in a Listed race, but that was in far less demanding company.

Winner of ten races; last of six stakes race wins was in 2023 Royal Whip over 1m2f at the Curragh; however, he proved that he retains considerable ability and enthusiasm when winning a conditions event over this trip at the Curragh on seasonal debut; (Dallas Star third, Emit fourth), that was his first 1m6f attempt, on his 47th outing.
