Irish Horse Racing Tips – Best Bets on Bellewstown’s Wednesday Card

Irish Horse Racing Tips – Wednesday, August 24

The action in Ireland on Wednesday comes from Bellewstown, which hosts an eight-race Flat card. Our Irish horse racing expert has identified his top bets on the day which you can check out below.

Scarriff (5.10 Bellewstown) 6/1

The first division of the Southgate Centre Drogheda Handicap looks like a good opportunity for SCARRIFF to get off the mark at the fifth attempt.

John Murphy’s filly cut little ice in a trio of maidens earlier this year but better was expected once switched to handicaps at a lowly level and she caught the eye when fourth at Killarney on handicap debut last month.

Scarriff was only beaten a length and a half that day and the winner, Geological has gone in again since. The tongue tie applied to Scarriff is retained here, and Colin Keane keeps the partnership intact, so with a good draw to her advantage in stall 6, there are plenty of positives about Scarriff’s chances here.

Scarlet Angel (6.10 Bellewstown) 4/1

Bellewstown’s Lougher Handicap has attracted a competitive field, but SCARLET ANGEL strongly catches the eye for trainer Ger Lyons and jockey Colin Keane.

This daughter of Mineshaft made a highly promising handicap debut when third at Killarney last month, staying on strongly from the back of the field and ultimately finishing just over a length behind Aristovic, who she reopposes here on significantly better terms.

Scarlet Angel was then sent off 9/2 for a Leopardstown handicap and was still well within contention before being badly squeezed out half a furlong from home, Colin Keane having to snatch his mount up and letting her come home in her own time afterwards.

Scarlet Angel would have gone close but for that notable interference, so running off the same mark today she can be backed with confidence to gain compensation.

Jesse Evans (7.40 Bellewstown) 2/1

The best bet on Bellewstown’s Wednesday card comes in the Panda Power (Q.R.) Handicap where JESSE EVANS should be tough to beat.

Noel Meade’s 6yo has developed into a smart dual-purpose performer, making a promising switch to the level when runner-up, beaten just a head, in a 2m1f Killarney handicap last month.

Jesse Evans stepped forward on that showing when runner-up in the ultra-competitive Galway Hurdle last time out, and he now holds an official rating of 142 over obstacles.

That makes his flat mark of 89 surely within reach, particularly with Pat Taaffe claiming a valuable 7lb. Jesse Evans’ form figures in this sphere now read 24212, and he can improve upon that with victory in Wednesday’s closing race.
