1.25 Salisbury – Falcon Nine 9/4

In what looks a fairly decent contest for the opening race on the card at Salisbury, Ryan Moore could get his day off to a flyer with the Sir Michael Stoute trained Falcon Nine. He is a nicely bred colt of Ulysses who holds some very fancy entries for next year, including a Derby entry, so the thinking is he could be pretty special by all accounts, as Sir Michael won’t enter him in such a race for nothing.
He finished fourth on debut, which to face value doesn’t look particularly warranting of a Derby entry, but he was a typical unruly and inexperienced 2-year-old colt who will come on for the run after debut. He was very slowly away from the stalls at Leicester last time out, and ran like a stiffer track might suit, which he will get here today but did eventually make up some ground at the end and show some promise. With his debut now behind him, normal progression resuming and fancy entries for the season ahead, it wouldn’t surprise us if the yard have another nice horse on their hands with Falcon Nine.

1.36 Warwick – Call Me Tara 11/4

With the second meeting of the season kicking off at Warwick on Tuesday, we have a fairly decent Mares Novices Hurdle to kick start the card, which features a few horses who all have winning form to their names either in Bumpers or Hurdle Races. The one we fancy has two hurdle runs to her name already, the Fergal O’Brien trained Call Me Tara.
She had some fairly useful bumper form to her name without winning, but it seems that going over obstacles is more like her bread and butter. A decent winner on Hurdle debut at Worcester in July, where she beat Paris Dixie by just under a length, Paris Dixie a horse that has since come out and hacked up at Newton Abbot when upped in trip and put into handicaps.
Call Me Tara then went to Fontwell and ran a blinding race under a penalty, only just beaten by two lengths in second, but she didn’t help herself when drifting across the course to the far rail. The horse that beat her re-apposes today and although they are listed as level weights, Call Me Tara has the advantage of a very useful 7lb allowance from jockey Jack Hogan. That could be enough to win this. Dollar Bae was a winner in bumpers but hasn’t been seen since April and is having her first start over obstacles, she could be anything and looks to be the main danger if taking to hurdles.

2.11 Warwick – No Word 9/2

Champion Jockey Brian Hughes doesn’t normally have many rides when a meeting is on at Warwick, so given his form at present, when he does have rides there it’s probably best to keep note on who they are. In this Maiden Hurdle contest, he rides No Word for Charlie Longsdon, who has only had the sole run in a point-to-point last December, winning it by just under 2 lengths.
Although it’s hard to gauge whether she will be ready for this, she is fairly well bred with winners in his family and is trained by a yard who can get them to win first time out over hurdles, plus she is theleast exposed in a pretty wide-open contest, so she could be the most likely improver with a nice mare’s allowance in this.
Itso Furty is having his first career start over obstacles for a powerful yard, and looks to be bred for hurdles, but does have to give weight to most of these. Seigneur Des As is a French import for the red hot Milton Harris yard, who are enjoying a decent spell at present, but has been over hurdles and fences in France, so the form is hard to judge looking at it by face value.

2.54 Lingfield – Saxon King 7/2

Charlie Hill’s has enjoyed a fine season, and his horses are currently running in fine order. With that in mind Saxon King could be the one to side within this race. He is out of Zoustar who has been producing nice winners left, right and centre recently, and Saxon King looks to be improving with each career run he has had to date.
Slightly underwhelming on debut at Windsor in July, where he finished 8 th out of 13 runners, it was his run last time out behind City Of Kings and Onslow Gardens that really caught our eye. Sent off a 40/1 outsider, he wasn’t really given much of a chance judging by the market, but he ran with a lot of credit to claim 3 rd spot after a slow exit at the start. He did look to be slightly one paced in that contest however, so with a hopeful strong pace to aim at in this he could pick up the pieces late on, also there doesn’t look to be any rivals in this that might caused troubles unlike his last run, which could turn out to be a fairly nice contest in the long run, with a very nicely bred Godolphin hotpot winning that race.
