1. EMILY DICKINSON (Aidan O’Brien, Seamie Heffernan) 13/2
Preference goes to EMILY DICKINSON, who is out of an Irish Oaks winner in Chicquita.
She patently failed to handle the Lingfield undulations when down the field in their Oaks trial back in May, but was much improved when runner-up in the Group 3 Stanerra Stakes at Leopardstown a week ago, enduring a little trouble in running which may have cost her the race.
That run came over 1m6f, but Emily Dickinson shouldn’t have any problems with this drop in trip and her ardent stamina can see her come out the best under Seamie Heffernan.
2. Cairde Go Deo (Ger Lyons, Colin Keane) 11/2
Ger Lyons and Colin Keane teamed up to take this prize with Even So in 2020, and that combination can supply the second here in CAIRDE GO DEO.
This filly has stepped forward on a promising Navan reappearance to land back-to-back Listed races the last twice, making all to take the King George V Cup at Leopardstown last month.
Whilst she will admittedly find it tougher to dominate in this line-up, Cairde Go Deo is a previous course winner who will appreciate the good ground in store. Her pilot was seen to maximum effect steering the Irish Derby winner Westover to an impressive victory last month but might have to settle for second here.
3. Magical Lagoon (Jessica Harrington, Shane Foley) 5/4
MAGICAL LAGOON stepped forward on a promising seasonal return at Navan to land the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.
Although it could be argued she was somewhat fortuitous to take that prize given that favourite Sea Silk Road appeared to throw her race away by hanging left late on, it was still impressive the manner in which she knuckled down for pressure.
Saturday’s race represents a step back into Group 1 level, however, and she disappointed on her only previous run in this grade. Whilst it’s tough to see her out of the three here, it might be third, rather than first, for Magical Lagoon this afternoon.
