England +4 handicap (England vs Australia, Rugby Union – 11am) 10/11

Last week we tipped England +3 and it looked for all money that it would be coming our way when Australia had Darcy Swain sent off in the first half. It wasn’t to be as England failed to capitalise and were simply not as savvy as Australia. Complacent with possession throughout and some poor decision making were their undoing.
There was however, plenty to like. They created enough chances that on another day they would have capitalised from. And there were decisions to kick for goal, when they had only minutes before scored from a maul which were made in error.
There were some stern words in the huddle post game, and England knew it was a game they let get away with them. Expect a much more fired up performance this week.
Between the teams, even on last week’s evidence, there isn’t a huge amount between the teams. We’re doubling down and going with England +4 this week with the hope they can at least get close.
Perfect Power (July Cup – 4:25pm Saturday) 9/4
We’re going to keep this very simple – the best horse in the race, wins! Perfect Power showed just why he’s rated as the best British sprinter this season by delivering a smooth-as-you-like victory in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
He travelled like a dream that day and easily accounted for some smart rivals to land the Group 1. We’ve got no doubt it’s going to be a similar story here and he can go in again for Richard Fahey.
The excellent Christophe Soumillon will take the reigns once more, the conditions will be perfect and this race should have enough pace up front to allow him to cruise into contention at the business end. He’s an extremely worthy favourite and the 2/1 price just big enough to catch the eye.
Draw – Holland Vs Sweden (FIFA Women’s World Cup – 8pm Saturday) 21/10
Holland and Sweden kick-off their Euro 2022 finals campaign, in what could be an early group decider, with this pair expected to be too strong and qualify ahead of Portugal and Switzerland. The Dutch bounced back from a heavy 5-1 loss to England, with wins over Belarus and Finland, meanwhile Sweden beat Brazil in their last friendly 3-1.
Confidence will be high for the Swedes and despite the drubbing, Holland received at the hands of the tournament hosts, I expect a tight cagey affair, with a share of the spoils likely to suit both teams.
Max Verstappen To Win (Austrian Grand Prix – Sunday 2pm) 10/11
The Dutchman looked comfortably on course for his first British Grand Prix win last weekend, but he suffered a dramatic loss of performance after a piece of Alpha Tauri bodywork became wedged in the floor of his Red Bull.
It’s safe to assume Verstappen would have secured a sixth win in seven races had he avoided the debris, such was his advantage after passing pole-sitter Carlos Sainz in the opening laps. But where better for the fired-up world champion to bounce back than Austria? It’s another home race for the Red Bulls and a track where they have traditionally excelled, with Verstappen winning three of the last four races in Styria.
The format should play into Verstappen’s hands, too. Red Bull have certainly driven home their advantage over Ferrari in race trim, but they are perhaps less racy over a single lap. With the second sprint race of 2022 set to take place on Saturday, you sense Verstappen will find himself on pole regardless of the result of Friday’s traditional qualifying session.
