Falmouth Stakes – Racing Tips 1-2-3

Tomorrow’s showpiece race at Newmarket is the historic Falmouth Stakes on the July Course. The market as you’d expect is saturated by the inclusion of star Inspiral, but there’s some intriguing runners in behind. We have picked out our 1-2-3 for the race below.

1. Inspiral (John Gosden, Frankie Dettori)

The gang is back together! It hasn’t taken long for Mr Gosden and Mr Dettori to return from their ‘sabbatical’ and the Italian maestro is back on duty after a very public fall out following Royal Ascot.

Some sharp words have been exchanged, but confirmed this week Frankie will ride all Gosden’s big guns, including star filly Inspiral. She made her belated seasonal return at Royal Ascot with a blockbuster performance in the Coronation Stakes. She spliced her way through the field that day, and is almost impossible to oppose in the Falmouth. She’d have been a heavy favourite for the 1,000 Guineas, but made amends at Ascot and will be looking to make hay now back on the track.

She certainly hasn’t been missed in the market at 1/4, but it’s hard to argue she shouldn’t be that price. A very confident pick for the No.1 spot.

1. Sibila Spain (Christophe Head, Aurelien Lemaitre)

Things get more interest for the placings. Coronation Stakes rivals Prosperous Voyage and Sandrine will reoppose from last month while four-year-olds Primo Bacio and Sibila Spain must give 9lbs to their younger rivals.

We’re going with Sibila Spain for the forecast here who we haven’t seen since landing the Prix du Muguet at Saint-Cloud. She was withdrawn at Royal Ascot, but is an extremely likeable filly who is clearly well thought of.  She’ll find the prelims much calmer at the July Course than the hustle and bustle of Royal Ascot and can make amends with a big run.

She’s little hope of staying with Inspiral in the run in, but can certainly be the ‘best of the rest’ here.

1. Proseperous Voyage (Ralph Beckett, Rob Hornby)

In third can be Prosperous Voyage who did not get to show her best last time at Royal Ascot in a race that didn’t go her way. She will welcome the return to Newmarket (although a different course) and the 1000 Guineas runner-up certainly has the capability to run a big race.

She should bounce back and produce a better run here under Rob Hornby and is our pick to make up third spot.
