Floating Rock (3:30 Perth)
FLOATING ROCK is a horse in form having comfortably won a match race last time out at Hexham. Mark Walford’s gelding has a very solid profile which includes a victory at Southwell.
He has also recorded an impressive 2nd against a decent rival for this level at Taunton the race before. His stamina at 2m4f is assured. He won at this distance at Ayr last season so that won’t be an issue. Conditions won’t be an issue either and he can get his head in front once again.
Hooper (3:46 Stratford)
Nicky Henderson sends HOOPER to Stratford following a disappointing Chase display finishing last of three in his latest outing. That may not seem great preparation for this, however it looks like smaller obstacles will be the plan here on in. Hooper has had three attempts at fences and not triumphed, lacking fluency in his jumping on often going left.
Over hurdles he has a great record of 10 runs, 4 wins, 3 seconds and a third. His last victory came over this course and distance, and the return to Stratford could spark a return to the winner’s enclosure.
To further add to his credentials Nicky Henderson is going well in the past fortnight. He’s registered a healthy 25% strike rate in the past 14 days which bodes well coming from this top yard.
Ahead Of Schedule (4:21 Stratford)
AHEAD OF SCHEDULE accounted for Wavecrest here last month and bids to repeat the trick for a quick double. He’s slightly worse of with that rival here, but that was his first attempt at fences. Expect him to come on for that and be better today.
He showed a really game attitude, making all and getting his rivals off the bridle, before holding on grimly to win by a neck. He’ll be a tough nut to crack under Sean Quinlan and can go in again.
Of Corse I Can (4:56 Stratford)
Neil Mullholland’s OF CORSE I CAN ran a very creditable 2nd to the highly rated Fat Sam last time on his first start under rules. The former point to pointer looks to have a golden opportunity here to get his first victory.
This has the looks of a shoot out between him and Fire Lake. However, his main rival hasn’t run to the same level of form and has to put some mediocre performances aside to win here. It’s also his first start since February so fitness must be taken on trust.
