Four-time hurdle winner and career-best form to win by 10l at Fontwell two runs ago (2m5f, good to soft); went up 8lb for that and was back down to earth on his return visit when beaten 20l; hard to know entirely what to expect from him.

Four Flat wins and three over hurdles; has yet to win this season over jumps but two of his three placed efforts came here and he's likely to be a strong contender, for all that last two runs (hurdle/AW) weren't his best.

Flat, hurdle and chase winner; unraced in Britain on worse than good to soft; respectable fifth of nine back on the Flat (2m/1m6f) on last two starts and has each-way claims.

Form & Verdict
Had nine wins on the spin (Flat and jumps, all on soft or heavy) in 2020 and this race was the eighth leg; smart 3m hurdles form for the last of those wins but he was put in his place in two Grade events before pulling up in the Stayers' at Cheltenham in March 2021; 15-2, beaten 18l by Tin Fandango on return at Newbury 12 days ago but gave some encouragement.

Hit peak Flat form at this stage last season; his only win this term came in a three-runner race and there have been too many heavy defeats for comfort, but going down by a nose at Catterick (soft) on latest outing showed he cannot be totally dismissed.

Comfortable winner of a 1m6f maiden handicap at Redcar (good) in May; best of last three starts came over the same C&D (good to soft) when creditable third of 11 on latest outing, staying on; ran poorly on sole attempt at 2m and also not proven on soft but he's not fully exposed.

Justified favouritism in similar event under Kaiya Fraser at Ponftefract (1m4f, soft) on seasonal debut and that career-best form has received a few boosts since; still unexposed at this trip (was campaigned mainly over further last season) and may well improve again; strong contender.

Form & Verdict
Sole win in a maiden (11.5f, soft) in 2020; did well to finish fourth at Haydock (1m6f, good to soft) on penultimate start, having come from a difficult position, but he was well adrift of the first two when never dangerous there on latest; down the weights but does not look the percentage call.

Verdict

The classy but rather dour staying hurdler Main Fact made a promising return 12 days ago from his long layoff. He was nowhere near the front line, beaten 18l by the winner Tin Fandango, but that Newbury run could have blown away a lot of cobwebs and the Pipe 9yo might just reverse the placings. However, an interesting alternative option is CLARITUDO, who is the only 3yo in the field and has unfinished business at this trip.[Richard Austen]
