Form & Verdict
Shock winner from Galopin Des Champs here 12 months ago after running Corach Rambler close in the Ultima at Cheltenham; had Galopin Des Champs around 2l away in third when landing the John Durkan here in November; however, the Mullins star reasserted his supremacy in the Irish Gold Cup; unseated at the 16th at Cheltenham.

Form & Verdict
Has been beaten only twice when completing over fences, each time by Fastorslow, first time in this race last season and the second in the John Durkan on his reappearance; reasserted his supremacy in the Irish Gold Cup and has tightened his grip on the chasing scene with a second Cheltenham Gold Cup triumph; now has 10lb in hand over Fastorslow on official figures.

Deprived of a third Cheltenham Gold Cup triumph by Inothewayurthinkin following a thoroughly satisfactory preparation in the shape of two C&D wins, following the same pattern as the previous seasons, taking in the Savills and this race, which he won for the third time last year; got tired on his reappearance in the Savills this time; should be spot-on now.

Form & Verdict
Has come up on trumps on the big occasion in a range of settings, including Galway, Sandown and Far Hills, but none more memorable than at Kempton, when landing the King George after a mishap to the sadly ill-fated Shishkin; warmed up for this with a venture over hurdles at Aintree; blinkered for the first time.

Has been a fantastic standard-bearer for his yard, winning 12 races between hurdles and fences including the King George in 2023; hasn't been at that level in the last year but ran respectably in the Stayers' Hurdle; has to bounce back from a poor Aintree run.

Career highlight when winning the King George over fences at Kempton in December 2023; won two conditions hurdles last year; gave it a very good go from the front when seventh in the Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham (3m, good) last month following wind surgery but this 11yo is probably vulnerable once more.

Career highlight when winning the 2023 King George and he was running well when falling two out in the Gold Cup here that year; won two conditions hurdles last year; soundly beaten behind Impose Toi in Grade 2 Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury (3m, soft) in November last time and, although he's had a wind op and better ground may aid his cause, this 11yo looks up against it.

Has the distinction of having beaten I Am Maximus on his chasing debut, and beat Bravemansgame (gave 6lb) by 1 3/4l when winning the Grade 2 Charlie Hall at Wetherby in November on just his third chase start; pulled-up before two out in Cheltenham Gold Cup; stiff task now after finishing only fifth behind Gerri Colombe in the Bowl at Aintree.

Has some good efforts at about 3m1f in his record but he was pulled up in last year's Gold Cup (25-1) and, after finishing a respectable third to Galopin Des Champs at Leopardstown after Christmas, he wasn't at his best in a Grade 2 here last time out; his form needs an upgrade and others look better equipped for the stamina test; has been tongue tied or worn cheekpieces in recent starts, no aids today.

Former Supreme Novices' winner; smart novice chaser last season; closest he came to winning a Grade 1 was over 3m at this venue; excellent return in 2m4f Durkan Chase here, splitting Fastorslow and Galopin Des Champs in December; very disappointing next two runs; soundly beaten in Grade 2 at Fairyhouse last time.

Dual Leopardstown Grade 1 winner at 3m in 2022 and third to Galopin Des Champs in 2023 Cheltenham Gold Cup; let down by his jumping this season before respectable third when dropped in trip in the Ryanair; jumped well at Aintree, reversing Cheltenham form with Protektorat and taking an excellent second behind Jonbon, back up in trip now.

Finished third in the 2023 Cheltenham Gold Cup; showed some spark around Punchestown's banks course this February but this 12yo is nothing like the force of old and was well beaten in the cross-country race at Cheltenham last month; without a win since December 2022 and looks up against it.

Top class over regulation fences in his prime (dual 3m Grade 1 winner) but has regressed and become inconsistent; gave a pretty good account when placed behind Vanillier on Bank course at Punchestown (3m1f, soft to heavy; refitted cheekpieces/first-time tongue-tie) last month but was well beaten on his only C&D start (in 2024); younger rivals appeal much more.

Not always the best of jumpers, but has won three of his seven races over fences, including a defeat of Limerick Lace in a Grade 3 event at Naas last season; third at odds-on at Navan in March on his first run after a break; made amends when beating Appreciate It handsomely in a Grade 2 Fairyhouse event just short of 2m4f; plenty to prove at this level.

Sole run on heavy was a win on rules debut; tasted success at two Cheltenham Festivals, coming from well off the pace, before the even sweeter prize of this race last year when he was never far away and had zero alarms before some idling in front after grabbing total control at the final fence (much earlier than usual); last month's Cheltenham Gold Cup (soft) seemed to show the ceiling of his ability, when it looked exceedingly hard work for him from the final fence, but that was while finishing an excellent third with career-best form; 13lb higher than last year but still well in and should go well if the Gold Cup did not make him dig too deep.
