Wednesday – Royal Ascot Day 2 Tips Round-up

The feature race on day 2 of Royal Ascot is the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes, a race which often attracts some of the top middle-distance horses in Europe. The action gets underway with the top two-year-old fillies contesting the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes. There are two other Group 2 races on the card with the Queen’s Vase and the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes.

Royal Ascot day 2 tips will also focus on the big handicap of the day,  the Royal Hunt Cup over a mile. The race has not been won by the favourite since Forgotten Voice landed a gamble in 2009. He was the only winning Hunt Cup favourite in the past 25 seasons. There are some speedy juveniles contesting the Windsor Castle Stakes and the day concludes with only the second ever running of the Kensington Palace Stakes.

Queen Mary Stakes Tips

The Queen Mary Stakes is restricted to two-year-old fillies over five furlongs and was given Group 2 status in 2004. Notable past winners include 1000 Guineas winner Attraction (2003) while American trainer Wesley Ward has struck four times since 2009, most recently with Campanelle in 2020.

Queen’s Vase

The Queen’s Vase is for three-year-olds over a mile and three-quarters, reduced from two miles in 2017, and is a recognised trial for the St Leger. Aidan O’Brien is one short of equalling Sir Henry Cecil’s eight victories in the race following the success of subsequent Irish Derby winner Santiago in 2020.

Prince of Wales’s Stakes Tips

The Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes over ten furlongs is the highlight of the day, a race first run in 1862. This event has an impressive roll of honour including Brigadier Gerard (1972), Dubai Millennium (2000) and Ouija Board (2006).

Duke of Cambridge Stakes

The Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes was added to the meeting in 2004 and is for fillies and mares over a mile. Sir Michael Stoute won the inaugural running with Favourable Terms and has been successful three times since, most recently with Integral in 2014.

Royal Hunt Cup Tips

The Royal Hunt Cup was first run in 1843 and is one of the most competitive one-mile handicaps of the season. Royal Ascot punters will be searching for some value in a race that has produced plenty of long-priced winners including Belgian Bill (2013) at 33-1 and Zhui Feng (2017) at 25-1. With the Royal Hunt Cup having a history of long-odds winners it is the perfect race to use your 2022 Royal Ascot free bets

Windsor Castle Stakes Tips

The Windsor Castle Stakes is a listed race for two-year-olds over five furlongs. It was added to the Royal meeting in 1988 and Her Majesty The Queen won the race in 2020 with Tactical. Another such success would be extremely popular this year.

Kensington Palace Stakes Tips

The Kensington Palace Stakes is a new race that will be run for the second time in 2022. It is a handicap over a mile and is confined to fillies and mares aged four years and upwards.
