Thursday – Royal Ascot Day 3 Tips Round-up
The third day of Royal Ascot 2022 is Gold Cup day when all eyes will be focused on Stradivarius as he seeks to match the record four victories set by Yeats (2006-2009). Stradivarius equalled the three victories of Sagaro (1975–1977) with an easy victory in 2020, but after defeat last year, he has the record of Aidan O’Brien’s great stayer in his sights once again.
The Gold Cup is the feature race of Ladies’ Day and remains the highlight of the Royal meeting for many traditionalists. If you’re looking to back Stradivarius to win his 4th Gold Cup then make sure to look at our free bet offers before placing your Gold Cup bets.
The Group 1 Ascot Gold Cup is supported by some high-class fillies in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes and some speedy juveniles in the Norfolk Stakes. Our Royal Ascot day 3 tips will also attempt to solve some very competitive three-year-old handicaps with the Britannia Handicap and King George V Stakes. Some promising three-year-olds contest the Hampton Court Stakes while Royal Ascot day 3 races conclude with the Buckingham Palace Stakes over seven furlongs.
Norfolk Stakes Tips
The Group 2 Norfolk Stakes is restricted to two-year-olds over five furlongs and was first run in 1843. Some very fast juveniles have been successful here including Aidan O’Brien’s Johannesburg (2001) and Wesley Ward’s No Nay Never (2013).
King George V Stakes Tips
The King George V Stakes is a mile and a half handicap for three-year-olds. Brown Panther (2011) and Elite Army (2014) were successful favourites but there have been plenty of upsets including South Pacific (2019) at 22-1.
Ribblesdale Stakes tips
The Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes is for three-year-old fillies over a mile and a half and is sometimes referred to as the Ascot Oaks. Jockey Frankie Dettori won this race for a record eighth time in 2020 when partnering Frankly Darling for John Gosden, though their Oaks second Emily Upjohn will be absent from the race this time around.
Ascot Gold Cup Tips
The Group 1 Gold Cup retains its significance at Royal Ascot despite the wane in popularity for stayers in the breeding industry in modern times. Stradivarius failed to shine in this last season, but it remains a division he has dominated in recent years as he seeks a fourth Gold Cup victory.
Britannia Handicap Tips
The Britannia Handicap is for three-year-olds over a mile and is one of the toughest races for punters to solve at Royal Ascot. Fast Or Free (2012) was the last winning favourite with recent long-priced winners including Bless Him (2017) at 25-1 and Biometric (2019) at 28-1.
Hampton Court Stakes Tips
The Hampton Court Stakes is a Group 3 event for three-year-olds over ten furlongs. It has been won by some high-class horses including Godolphin duo Hawkbill (2016) and Benbatl (2017), both going on to achieve Group 1 success.
Buckingham Palace Stakes Tips
The Buckingham Palace Handicap is a seven-furlong handicap for three-year-olds and upwards. The race was reinstated in 2020 after a five-year hiatus and it is worth noting that the average winning SP is around 20-1 in its six-year history.
