Kim Muir Challenge Cup Tips 2023

Kim Muir Challenge Cup Tips are on the card for the final race of the Cheltenham Festival Day 3 action. This race offers punters something a little different as it is for amateur jockeys only. But the other big feature of the Kim Muir is that it is regarded as a feeder event for the Grand National. So our betting experts scan the latest markets for Kim Muir Challenge Cup tips.

Kim Muir Challenge Cup Potential Runners & Favourites

The Kim Muir Challenge Cup is a fascinating race with a significant element being it features amateur riders. The St Patrick’s Day celebrations at the Cheltenham racecourse wrap up on Thursday with this fixture. Read on to see some recommendations for Kim Muir Challenge Cup Tips 2023.

There was been a clear market leader through the ante-post stage of Kim Muir betting odds. That was Gordon Elliott’s FRONTAL ASSAULT, who has put in three solid efforts in defeat this season.

The latest of those was full of encouragement, Frontal Assault taking a runner-up spot at Fairyhouse in late January. He has Cheltenham Festival experience behind him, having finished 8th in last year’s Martin Pipe.

AIN’T THAT A SHAME has been making some excellent steady progress for trainer Henry De Bromhead. The 8-year-old has been in the frame in each of his last three as he continues his upward curve in this sphere. Ain’t That A Shame failed to deliver the odds at Navan on his latest run but was pipped by just a neck at 3m.

OMAR MARETTI could be considered among the strong Kim Muir Challenge Cup tips. It has been three wins from three at the start of his chasing career this season. He bolted up to deliver the odds at Catterick in mid-February to complete the hattrick and brings a significant threat.

Other recommendations to look at include the consistent GLENLOEMISTER COFFEY and SCHOOL BOY HOURS, who could all run well for trainers who have had their fair share of Cheltenham Festival winners over the years.

How Often Does a Favourite Horse Win The Kim Muir Challenge Cup Race

The state of play when it comes to favourites showing up and delivering the odds in the Kim Muir is that they have been few and far between. In last year’s renewal, MOUNT IDA scored as the 3/1 FAV, making it just two winning favourites in the previous ten years. Those were a decade apart as well.

But very interestingly, although this is a big field and generally a wide-open fixture, big long-priced winners haven’t come good that often either. Doomsday Book with a 2017 score is the only one in the last ten renewals to have won at anything bigger than 16/1. So that gives a decent range of entries to consider in Kim Muir Challenge Cup Tips.

Kim Muir Challenge Cup History & Present Time

The registered name of this race is the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup, which is chopped down to just the Kim Muir commonly. The race is a handicap chase around Cheltenham’s New Course, and it is open to five-year-olds and above. The race is a trip of 3m 2f, and there are 21 fences in the fixture.

The first edition of the Kim Muir was back in 1946, and it has been held every year since at the Festival besides 1947, 1978, and 2001.

Because of the distance and the number of fences in the contest, it is a race that big stayers take on, and it’s common to find the interplay between entries in the Kim Muir and the Grand National.

Kim Muir Challenge Cup Jockey & Trainer Records

There are only two horses that have won the Kim Muir twice. Those were Chu-The in the 60’s and Glyde Court in the mid-80’s.

Switching over to the jockey trends, that’s all about Jamie Codd, who has picked up four victories, the most recent of which was on Cause of Causes in 2016. No other active jockey has won it more than once.

Trainers David Pipe, Nicky Henderson, Donald McCain and Gordon Elliott have all picked up two victories in the last two decades. On the other hand, Philipp Hobbs, Venetia Williams and Paul Nicholls have all failed to land a winner in that period, each having had at least 16 entries.
