Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle Potential Runners & Favourites
There could be a stack of form-horses that will line up at the start of the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle, potentially making it a superb contest. The field could be deep and there are many options to look through. Our horse racing experts guide you through it all.
MINELLA COCOONER looks like a big contender in this year’s Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle betting. Gordon Elliott’s 6-year-old has won two of three trips over the hurdles and was runner-up in the other.
He remained in fine form winning the Grade 1 Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown at the start of February. So it could be an intriguing Cheltenham debut for him.
GINTO has won all three hurdles efforts since making the move to trainer Gordon Elliott. Those were at Navan and Naas in pattern company and Ginto has rapidly improved with each run. The latest of those victories from him was a Grade 2 success by more than four lengths.
HILLCREST is another to consider, having won all four of his completed hurdles races in his career. His only hiccup was when unseating the rider in the Grade 2 Classic Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in January. He has since come out and won the Prestige Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) so has to be taken seriously here.
Another to consider for the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle tips is THE NICE GUY from Willie Mullins. He opened his hurdles account at the first time of asking at Naas at the end of January. That was by a wide margin to deliver the odds and he could be a big player.
SHANTREUSSE has won both trips over the hurdles. More will be needed for this Cheltenham Festival effort, but he has been heading in the right direction.
So too the undefeated STAG HORN, who scored an eye-catching Grade 2 in mid-January. GOOD TIME JONNY won in fine style at Leopardstown last time out, and with an excellent recent strike rate over the timbers, he could get in it.
