US Horse Racing Tips – Best Bets at Tampa Bay Downs on Friday
US Racing Tips
With British and Irish racing shut down, all eyes have turned to International racing and jurisdictions that are continuing to race and there is still plenty of action taking place in America.
Here is our through-the card guide to the meeting at Tampa Bay Downs in Florida and our best US racing tips of the day
BILLYSBIRTHDAYGIRL (Tampa Bay Downs Race 1, 5½f Dirt, 4.45pm,)
We start the meeting off with a three-year-old fillies race and we’re going to advise a bet on Billysbirthdaygirl who has showed signs of ability in three previous starts. She was given a tender ride to say the least on turf last time and had previously folded only inside the final furlong when fourth over 6f. A slight drop in trip is a positive and she comes out best at the weights here.
SONOMA STORM (Tampa Bay Downs Race 2, 6f Dirt, 5.15pm)
Put in a pleasing first run at this track when third on her first run after a three-month break at the start of March. Stayed on strongly on that occasion and will surely improve for that run given the earlier layoff, while the form stacks up well with the winner having won again since. Sonoma Storm knows how to win with three previous career successes and should go close to winning this time around.
WEST BURKE (Tampa Bay Downs, Race 3, 1m½f Turf, 5.48pm)
Ran a decent race in a higher grade last time and will find this level more to her liking after finishing a close third at this level on her penultimate start. Still improving, clearly acts well on turf and is rated to go close. She’s well worth backing to lose her maiden tag.
GEOGRAPHY (Tampa Bay Downs, Race 4, 1m½f Turf, 6.19pm)
A son of the ‘Iron Horse’ Giant’s Causeway, Geography won with plenty in hand last time and looks set to follow up here. That win was only his second career start and he still looked incredibly green when asked to go and win his race, running off a true line, and he had more in hand at the line than the winning margin suggests. Should be more to come and he rates a confident selection.
R SWEET EXCHANGE (Tampa Bay Downs, Race 5, 6f Dirt, 6.50pm)
Three last-time-out winners in this field and all are expected to go well again but preference is for R Sweet Exchange. She needed every yard of this trip to beat the reopposing Alluring Approval last time and is clearly in good heart having won two of her last three starts. She’ll always be a danger in this grade and has finished out of the first three just twice in her last eight starts.
MELISSANI (Tampa Bay Downs, Race 6, 1m Turf, 7.21pm)
A huge field of 13 runners for this race and the draw is likely to play a huge part. With that in mind, it could be worth chancing Melissani from stall two. She finished a place behind the reopposing Jackies Dream last time but could turn that form around given the advantageous draw. A previous winner in this grade at this track, she should again run a big race.
INDIAN GULCH (Tampa Bay Downs, Race 7, 1m Dirt, 7.55pm)
Has moved a round a fair bit and is now with his sixth trainer after being claimed by Christos Gatsis after his last start. That was after he’d finished a disappointing third and Gatsis has given him a 56-day break before his return here. Knows how to get his head in front with four career wins to his name and if he’s been sweetened up by his new trainer he’ll have a huge chance.
GESTURE (Tampa Bay Downs, Race 8, 1m Turf, 8.26pm)
Presumably highly thought of at home having been sent off a hot favourite on her debut last time on dirt. Didn’t seem to take to that surface and the switch to turf this time around will hopefully bring about an improved performance. She’s given another chance to prove that her reputation is well deserved.
