Thursday’s Extra Place Race Tips
Need a hand picking out which horses to back in these selected races? Fear not, we’re here to help!
We’ve put up 8/1 12/1 and 16/1 winners in these articles over the past couple of weeks, and we kicked off this week with 13/2 and 22/1 placers on Tuesday! Here are our tips in today’s extra place races with Betfred…
11-year-old KNOCKRAHA BOSS (8/1 Betfred) justified favouritism to snatch a narrow victory in a handicap at Thurles on New Year’s Day. Richard Foley’s hurdler was handed an RPR of 101 for that performance, but he has run well off higher marks than his revised rating of 95 before, so I think there’s an excellent chance Knockraha Boss could challenge for another victory.
With five of the top six in the betting carrying their famous blue silks, it seems Godolphin has this handicap sewn up. Yet, I’m inclined to take a punt on MASSIF CENTRAL (12/1 Betfred), who finished a half-length second to the classy Downdraft in a Listed race on Irish soil last season. Mick Halford’s charge has landed a kind inside draw in stall four and could be a big player with just 8-8 on his back.
This may not be the most profitable each-way selection, but I firmly believe CHEF DES OBEAUX (6/1 Betfred) is the one to beat in this year’s Thyestes. Having made his debut for Willie Mullins in a two-and-a-half mile Grade One, Chef Des Obeaux ran a cracker to place fifth behind Roaring Bull on his handicap debut at Leopardstown, giving the four who finished ahead of him plenty of weight. Mullins has won three of the past six runnings of this handicap with classy sorts carrying plenty of weight, and I think Chef Des Obeaux has what it takes to add his name to the roll of honour.
Four of the first five past the post in a nine-and-a-half-furlong handicap on the first night of the Dubai World Cup Carnival go again here, with the likable Franz Kafka splitting the reopposing rivals at the top of the market. Near the bottom of the betting, however, we find BIG KITTEN (22/1 Betfred), who’s having his first start for new trainer Doug Watson. While in England with William Haggas, Big Kitten produced his best form on artificial surfaces, regularly hitting RPR’s around the 100-mark. There’s a strong chance he will take to the dirt surface out in Meydan and could run well beyond his odds, even from a tricky wide draw.
