Cheltenham Festival Focus – Daryl Carter reviews Betfair Hurdle weekend

Cheltenham Festival Focus – Betfair Hurdle Weekend

Daryl Carter runs through the talking points from the last week in his Cheltenham Festival Focus video following the Betfair Hurdle meeting on Saturday 8th February.

Betfair Hurdle day delivered the usual blend of excitement and drama. Paul Nicholls’ Pic D’Orhy managed to carry odds of 33/1 to victory in the namesake race on the card, narrowly denying Willie Mullins’ raider, Ciel De Neige with a flying finish.

The star performer on the card was undoubtedly Altior, who got back to winning ways in the Game Spirit Chase. Nicky Henderson’s star sat fourth and seemed to be faltering on the run to the last, but Altior’s turn of foot got him out of trouble in the closing stages and he’s now the 2/1 joint-favorite with Unibet for the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

There were also important wins for Native River, who outjumped his rivals en route to victory in the Denman Chase, and Rouge Vif, who scored in the feature chase at Warwick on Saturday.

In the latest edition of his Cheltenham Festival Focus series for Racing Tips, Daryl Carter runs through the key talking points from the week that was, and provides readers with another of his 2020 Cheltenham Festival tips in the meeting’s first handicap.
