TUESDAY IRISH RACING BEST BETS – CLONMEL RACING TIPS on 19 JANUARY
1:35 Clonmel – Monroe Maiden Hurdle (5yo+) 2m
DUNBOYNE rounded off his time in the point-to-point sphere with a win for Sean Doyle prior to switching to Gordon Elliott and the Yeats gelding shaped with plenty of promise in chasing home subsequent Grade One winner Bob Olinger on his hurdles debut at Navan in December.
That was a decent effort and while he was no match for the winner he finished clear of the rest and there could be better to come from him with this drop back in trip unlikely to present an issue.
That form took a big boost when the winner went on to capture the Lawlor Of Naas Hurdle on his next start and further progress ought to put him firmly in the mix here.
2:05 Clonmel – Lisronagh Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-95) 2m
DE BENNETTE arrives here on the back of a couple of good efforts over fences and hurdles and the veteran Beneficial mare can give another good account here.
James Grace’s charge struck her last career win over this course and distance last January when taking the corresponding race and she comes into this race having chased home Danegeld at Punchestown on New Years’ Eve where she was beaten four lengths into the runner-up spot.
She’s only been raised 1lb for that run while her rider can utilise his claim this time around which wasn’t the case when last seen out so she’s weighted to go close and with proven form here and on the ground it would come as no surprise to see her going close given her current good spell of form.
2:35 Clonmel – Munster Rated Novice Hurdle (5yo+) 2m3f
Lightly-raced TUCANAE struck over hurdles at the fourth attempt when successful at Fairyhouse back in November and the Yeats mare can get back to winning ways here.
Paul Nolan’s charge also won a bumper at Leopardstown as well as post a victory between the flags for her previous handler and she was sent off favourite for her last outing at Limerick on Boxing Day only to slip and crash out of the race entering the first bend.
She’s worth another chance to build on the earlier promise she had shown when running out a three lengths’ victor over Fiston Des Issards the time before and assuming that mishap last time hasn’t affected her confidence then she looks to hold solid claims here and she can get back on the scoresheet.
3:05 Clonmel – Tipperary Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-102) 2m3f
It might be worth sticking with veteran ALL THE CHIMNEYS who is holding his form well and the Bach gelding was a winner two starts ago at his beloved Thurles over fences where he ran out a five lengths’ victor over Presenting Point.
William Austin’s charge wasn’t quite so good next time back at that venue but he still turned in a creditable fourth behind Jack Dillinger and returning to hurdles for this latest outing he has to be of interest off this mark with a good 7lbs claimer further easing his burden at the weights.
His last hurdles success came at this venue from the same mark back in December 2018 and while his last hurdles start was disappointing he could go close back in this sphere if bringing the best of his recent chase form back over the smaller obstacles.
