SEA LA ROSA (Lillie Langtry Stakes) Saturday 2.45pm – 6/4

Sea La Rosa was an impressive winner when last seen at Lingfield.

This race was considerably more eye-catching before Free Wind the 11/10 ante-post favourite was in there. However, she will not take part which leaves the door wide open for the talented, although no superstar, Sea La Rosa. It’s not been a great week thus far for Tom Marquand in these colours, but he can put things right here in the Lillie Langtry. She was a solid 2nd last time at Haydock Park to Free Wind but was no match for that rival. There’s nothing of Free Wind’s calibre in here now, and this looks like a real chance for her to get back to winning ways.

Her biggest threat looks to be Emily Dickinson who has been tried in Group 1 company in Ireland and run creditably. However, she doesn’t look as progressive as the selection and should play second fiddle.

Man City and Liverpool give us an appetizer for the 2022/23 season on Saturday

Manchester City and Liverpool are set for a ding-dong battle over 38 games once again, but when the pair meet at Wembley on Saturday, do not expect these normally fine-tuned machines to work as economically as at their best.City have only played twice in pre-season, defeating Club America and Bayern Munich, while Liverpool have been rather more hit and miss: easy wins against Crystal Palace and Red Bull Leipzig were sandwiched between defeats to Manchester United and Red Bull Salzburg.Individual results in the build-up may favour the Manchester club, but Liverpool have had greater preparation. Moreover, despite their relative recent dominance of English football, neither side has a fantastic record in this match. City have won only three of the six Community Shields they have contested since their cash injection in the late 2000s, while Liverpool lost both the 2019 and 2020 editions, their first since 2006.With three of the last five renewals finishing all square before heading to penalties, a draw in 90 minutes looks the best bet in what should be a tight affair. Both sides have the potential to kick on and win comfortably at their best, but there is no mistaking that this will be recognised more as an opportunity to get minutes into legs ahead of the Premier League’s opening weekend.

CHARLES LECLERC TO WIN (Hungarian GP) Sunday 2pm – 6/4

Charles Leclerc has shown he and his Ferrari can do it over one lap this season, with the Monegasque claiming seven of 12 pole positions so far in 2022. But Leclerc’s trouble has been in converting those into race wins — failing to beat his rivals to the flag on each of the last five occasions he has started from the front. In Hungary, he can go some way to putting that record right. If Leclerc can hook up a lap in qualifying, as he has done so reliably thus far in 2022, it will surely set Ferrari up for a dominant weekend (providing the engine plays ball). The high downforce Hungaroring plays beautifully to Ferrari’s strength and gives them an immediate shot at wiping out the ground lost to Red Bull in France on Sunday. Mattia Binotto will certainly have his eyes fixed on locking out the front row. After his unforced error in France, Leclerc has now retired from the lead three times this season and his garage will know he must start eating into Max Verstappen’s 63-point lead sooner rather than later. You sense Leclerc needs this victory in favourable conditions to help bat away doubts, both personal and external, over his ability to contain the pressure and keep pace with his cheif title rival. Over to you, Charles.

ENGLAND TO WIN 1-0 (Women’s Euro 2022 Final) Sunday 5pm – 6/1

The whole of England will be cheering on the Lionesses on Sunday!

England meet Germany in the Women’s Euro 2022 final at Wembley, with the Lionesses looking to win their first major silverware. England have won all five games so far and dominated Sweden in a 4-0 win in the semi-final to progress.Opponents Germany have won every match played too, including a win over Spain in the group stage. They progressed with a 2-1 win over France on Wednesday night. Defences will be key once again for two sides who have conceded just a single goal in these finals, but in a tight and tense affair, home advantage and a previous 3-1 win for England, over their opponents, may just be enough to see them over the line.England to win 1-0, with plenty of nail biting moments to come over the  90 minutes.
