Birmingham Phoenix to win (Trent Rocket vs Birmingham Phoenix, The Hundred) Saturday 1.30pm – 10/11

Moeen Ali bowling for Birmingham Phoenix

Yes, the Hundred is back this week after a roaring success last year, bringing its own brand of T20 style thrills and spills. We’re focussing on what looks to be a top of the table clash later on in the competition. Both these teams have strong looking line-ups who can trouble the scoreboard.

Birmingham Phoenix were sensational last season, and arguably the best team to watch. They have again assembled a strong looking squad, with the blockbuster six hitting of Liam Livingstone and MS Wade, and captained by the mercurial all round talents of Moeen Ali. They’re also backed up in the bowling department where Milne, Tahir and Woakes should prove tough to score consistently against. They should have too much on both batting and bowling for Trent Rockets, who are solid without looking formidable. Phoenix to win at 10/11 is a solid play here.

Bradsell to win (Phoenix Stakes, The Curragh) Saturday 4.15pm – 13/8

It’s a cracking renewal of the Phoenix Stakes, but in terms of the most likely winner of Saturday’s Group 1, it simply has to be BRADSELL.
Archie Watson’s colt went into plenty of notebooks when bolting up in a York novice on debut in May, and he stepped forward on that showing to land the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot next time out.
This race was immediately nominated as his target afterwards, and the Coventry has arguably turned out to be one of the best juvenile races run at Royal Ascot in recent seasons, with the 2nd (Persian Force), 3rd (Royal Scotsman) and 4th (Blackbeard) all scoring at Group 2 level since.
Two of those reoppose here, but Bradsell looked well on top at the line last time and is surely a Group 1 winner in waiting. Hollie Doyle travels over here to keep the partnership intact and that decision can be justified with Group 1 glory.

Chelsea to win at half-time/full-time (Chelsea vs Everton ) Saturday 5.30pm – 6/4

Chelsea are back in action at Everton on Saturday

Both Everton and Chelsea are in a less stable position heading into 2022/23 than they were a year ago. However, the pressure is much more firmly on Frank Lampard than Thomas Tuchel. Lampard has not only lost key player Richarlison to Tottenham, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also expected to miss the first game through injury. That leaves the Toffees rather toothless up top and so Chelsea to win at half time and full time looks the best bet.The Blues have had a strange transfer window, with many of their more hopeful signings being poached, commonly by Barcelona. Nevertheless, their moves for Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly look astute ones while the absence of Romelu Lukaku is probably more of a positive than a negative. There look to be few injury concerns for Tuchel ahead of the game and while pre-season has not gone exactly to plan, including a 4-0 defeat to rivals Arsenal, there have been equally calamitous results for Everton against weaker opposition. Tuchel will be very keen for his side to hit the ground running with his side facing a greater battle for a top four spot than 12 months ago.

West Ham United host Manchester City, with all eyes on Erling Haaland as he makes his first league start for the club. Pep Guardiola’s side take on a Hammers team that gave them plenty to think about last season, with the sides drawing 2-2 here at the London Stadium and City picking up a 2-1 home win too.David Moyes’ side have brought in Nayef Aguerd and striker Gianluca Scamacca to boost the side, although pre-season left a lot to be desired, failing to win in the last four games. City were beaten by Liverpool in the Community Shield 3-1, with Pep suggesting his players are not ready yet. This will be a tough test for the visitors and I fancy them to have enough to take the victory. We do think West Ham will score though, so Man City to win + BTTS looks to be the play for us!
