MINNETONKA (Empress Stakes – Saturday 2.05pm Newmarket) 5/2

Trainer Richard Hannon might have another high class juvenile in Minnetonka

Trainer Richard Hannon has unleashed some smart juveniles this season and it appears as if he has a seriously talented prospect on his hands in the form of MINNETONKA, who showed an electric turn of foot on her debut at Salisbury over six furlongs earlier this month to win by seven lengths. Although its difficult to know what she beat that day, the Kingman filly could hardly have been anymore impressive and will be expected to take the rise into Listed company in her stride this weekend.

WESTOVER (Irish Derby – Saturday 3.45pm The Curragh) 7/4

Rob Hornby has lost the ride on Westover in the Irish Derby to Colin Keane

You have to go back all the way to 1994 with Balanchine to find a filly winning the Irish Derby. Aidan O’Brien will attempt to do just that with Epsom Oaks winner Tuesday who beat Emily Upjohn by the narrowest of margins in the English Classic.

She was however fortunate that day, given the head start given to the field by the eventual 2nd, at 11/8 looks a shade short for this race against the boys.

WESTOVER knows all about hard luck stories, having had a terrible passage in the Derby earlier this month. He had to weave his way through the field but when given room stayed on impressively despite the race being over. It was an eye-catching display and this hasn’t been missed in his price here.

However, Hurricane Lane again proved Derby-placed horses can have a huge say in this event last year winning impressively and we can see Ralph Beckett’s charge doing something similar. Controversially, Rob Hornby loses the ride, and he is partnered with Colin Keane who rides this track fantastically so that is no negative at all.

ENGLAND TO WIN TO NIL (England U19. vs Israel U19 – Saturday 7pm) 13/8

(Market to be found in ‘Full Time Result and Both Teams To Score’ and select England and No)

England take on Israel in the final group game of this Euro -U19 Championships, with the Three Lions already qualified for the semi-final, but looking to secure top spot, having beaten Austria 2-0 and Serbia 4-0.Israel need a point to guarantee their place and have so far drawn 2-2 with Serbia, before beating Austria 4-2.

England manager Ian Foster, may look to rotate a little for this contest to keep players fresh for the semi-final, but they still should be too strong for the Israeli’s here.

Therefore we’re playing the ENGLAND TO WIN TO NIL bet here, we see this as a 2-0 or 3-0 to the away team and therefore that looked the safest play here at 13/8.

OVER 38.5 POINTS (State Of Origin Game II – Sunday 10am) EVENS

Australia’s biggest sporting event rolls into Perth this weekend, and streuth, what a game we have in store!

It’s Game 2 of the three part bonanza as New South Wales bid to level the Series against Queensland having gone down 16-10 in the first match.

This means it’s do or die here for NSW and they’ve made a few changes to do so in what looks like a much more attacking line-up than the one in Sydney. The Blues are fielding no less than 7 players from the top of the NRL table Penrith Panthers and will be hoping to pose more of a threat than the last game where they managed just 2 tries all evening.

There’s usually a caginess to the opening game in Origin, and on neutral ground with the Series on the line in Game 2, there’s usually a propensity for the match to open up. This game looks absolutely ripe for tries given both line-ups. Both teams have picked mobile, fast packs, and surely this game will be played at lightening pace. That being so, the final 10 minutes of each half should allow the hugely talented attacking backlines of each side flourish and punish tired defenders meaning points are on certainly on the menu.

Therefore the pick here is OVER 38.5 POINTS in the game which could look a little light come Sunday lunchtime.

Get yourself comfy and settle in for what is set to be cracker!
