Wednesday kicks off the first day of four at Doncaster for the St Leger Festival meeting with Group Three action dominating the card although there is an intriguing Leger Legends race also on the card where the likes of Barry Geraghty, Noel Fehily and Richard Johnson are among the names to feature in the race.
Punters looking to potentially win big for relatively small stakes might be tempted to try the Tote Placepot which could return a big dividend given the competitive racing on show for the first day and we’ve picked out our Doncaster day one placepot tips for Wednesday’s opening day on Town Moor.
The ever-popular Tote Placepot bet offers punters the chance to potentially win big for a relatively small outlay where the bets beauty lies in not even having to back a winner in order to collect a share of the pot.
Covering the first six races of any meeting punters only need to have their selection(s) make the frame according to the number of runners and the race conditions. DONCASTER DAY ONE PLACEPOT TIPS – FIRST DAY SELECTIONS & PERM ON WEDNESDAY
1:45 Doncaster – Take The Reins Nursery Handicap Cl2 (2yo) 7f
7 BULLET FORCE – Placed in all three starts to date and won latest at Musselburgh. That form has been boosted and he looks well treated off his opening mark now stepping into a handicap. Previous runner-up efforts came behind useful rivals and there’s likely more to come.
9 SED MAARIB – Steadily progressive in three runs to date and got off the mark latest at Beverley, pulling clear. Form hasn’t stood up but it was a useful effort nonetheless and he could improve switching to a handicap.
2:20 Doncaster – British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) (IRE Incentive Race) Cl2 (2yo) 1m
1 CAPTIAL THEORY – Has two runs under his belt and has shaped with promise each time although still looked green latest at York. Could have more to offer upped in trip and holds a Group Two entry so could be one to keep onside and better can be expected.
8 FRANTASTIC – Well-bred debutante who is a brother to top-class Cracksman and represents the same connections. Seemingly well-regarded at home and betting should reveal more but he’s a very interesting contender on his racecourse bow and could run a big race.
2:50 Doncaster – Mondialiste Leger Legends Classified Stakes Cl5 (3yo+ 0-70) 1m
4 FIRST DANCE – Running well of late, winning two of her last three starts and losing nothing in defeat latest behind a progressive rival. Drops back in yardage here which could see the mare get back on the up and in her current vein of form she can’t be easily dismissed.
8 SHINING AITCH – Winner at Nottingham three starts ago and has shaped better than the bare result the last twice, beaten around two lengths each time. Those runs came over ten furlongs but he’s effective over this shorter trip and no surprise to see him in the mix here.
3:25 Doncaster – Japan Racing Association Sceptre Fillies’ Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 7f
4 JUST BEAUTIFUL – Has been highly tried since winning her first four career starts, better than the bare result in the Falmouth Stakes and possibly finding softer ground against her in a French Group Three last time. Only beaten a half-length there and can do better on this quicker surface so ought to be involved and the one to beat on balance of her form.
4:00 Doncaster – Cazoo Scarbrough Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (2yo+) 5f
1 ARECIBO – Was never a factor under a hold-up ride in the Nunthorpe last time but had been in good heart previously with two wins and placed efforts in the King’s Stand Stakes and Coral Charge among some very good efforts. Could benefit from the drop back in grade and not one to write off if the race is run to suit.
3 KHAADEM – Frustrating since his demolition in the 2019 Stewards’ Cup but has shown better signs of late in blinkers, travelling strongly for a long way at Newmarket latest and the drop to the minimum trip could see him end his losing streak having shown plenty of speed last time out. Not easily dismissed if building on that and can get involved.
4:30 Doncaster – I Love Julie Parkes Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-105) 1m2f
4 ANMAAT – Yet to finish out of the places in five starts which includes wins at Lingfield in May and at Bath latterly where he tanked through the race for an impressive success. That form looks only fair and he steps up in grade but likely has more to come and looks well-treated here so ought to make another bold bid.
