Olly Murphy bids to continue impressive recent form at Leicester on Tuesday

Warwickshire based trainer Olly Murphy has his team in flying form at present, sending out 6 winners in the last 14 days including stable star Brewin’upastorm who landed a Class 2 prize at the inaugural Winter Million meeting last weekend.

The trainer bids to maintain his excellent form with five runners at Leicester on Tuesday, a track in which he is operating at a 37% strike rate (+42.58 to level stakes) with his runners in recent seasons. Here at Racing Tips, we assess all five horses chances below.

Fresh New Dawn (1:50, Bet At Racingtv.com Novices’ Handicap Chase)

Olly Murphy’s first runner on the Leicester card comes courtesy of FRESH NEW DAWN who will be looking to return to winning ways having pulled up last time out at Fontwell in attritional conditions on Boxing Day.

The ten-year-old belatedly got off the mark over fences on penultimate start when landing a Class 5 handicap at Market Rasen, making all and staying on best of all to see off the challenge of subsequent scorer San Agustin over an extended 2m5f.

A line can be drawn through the run of Fresh New Dawn at Fontwell last time out as Olly Murphy’s charge failed to handle the testing surface and struggled to cope with the drop in trip on that occasion.

Fresh New Dawn should have optimum conditions on Tuesday afternoon and he looks like a leading player with jockey Fergus Gregory returning to the saddle.

Urban Grit (2:20, Tracey And Mark’s 60th Birthday Celebrations Novices’ Hurdle)

There are some potential improvers in this Novices’ hurdle contest and although he was in need of the experience last time out, URBAN GRIT should fair much better on the second start over timber.

The five-year-old had previously found the frame in two good ground bumpers at Huntingdon and Market Rasen on his first two starts but could never land a telling blow when sent over hurdles for the first time at Haydock back in December.

Urban Grit was ultimately well beaten in sixth that day but that margin of victory was possibly exaggerated as he encountered a heavy surface for the very first time in his career.

Olly Murphy’s charge will have learnt plenty for that hurdling debut and a return to a sounder surface could see him go close at likely generous odds.

First Class Return (3:20, Peter & Janine Life Anniversary Handicap Chase)

FIRST CLASS RETURN looked like a smart recruit to fences for Olly Murphy’s yard when landing back to back handicap chases in impressive fashion at Southwell last season.

However, the nine-year-old has failed to fire over the larger obstacles since returning this campaign including when finishing tailed off at this track earlier in the month over 2m4f after jumping poorly throughout.

Connections will be hoping a return to Class 4 company and a 4lb lower mark will see First Class Return spark back into form and he now remains just 1lb higher than when last visiting the winner’s enclosure.

Tinnahalla & Made For You (4:20 Every Race Live On Racing Tv Handicap Hurdle)

Little separated the Olly Murphy runners when the pair previously clashed over course and distance back in November and although Made For You was value for more than the 0.5l winning margin on that occasion, it is TINNAHALLA who gets the vote as he meets his stablemate on significantly better terms this time around.

Tinnahalla had previously landed a juvenile and novice hurdle last season after joining connections from Jamie Osbourne back in 2020. The five-year-old has also performed with credit in defeat including when reaching the frame in a competitive Class 2 contest at Ascot back in March.

The stablemates will likely fight out the finish once more on Tuesday but after a recent wind operation and a 4lb pull in the weights, Tinnahalla is selected to reverse the form of their previous encounter and register a third win over hurdles.
