Tuesday best bets – Top tips for Chelmsford and Newcastle

Brian Healy gives his free Tuesday best bets and racing tips for every race going to post across the day’s three meetings.

Storm Ciara continues to claim victims with Tuesday’s scheduled jumps racing fixtures at Lingfield and Ayr both lost to the elements leaving only Punchestown’s rearranged jumps card to fill the void over the sticks following the loss of the same card on Sunday.

However there is a Tuesday morning inspection planned for the premier Irish venue before racing can go ahead. Meanwhile, there is all-weather action at Chelmsford on their polytrack surface during the afternoon; while in the evening there is a fixture under the floodlights on the Newcastle tapeta.

Punchestown (jumps) – 1.20 – 4.35pm (7 races)
Chelmsford (flat, aw) – 1.35 – 4.15pm (6 races)
Newcastle (flat, aw) – 4.20 – 7.50pm (8 races)

Brian Healy assesses all three of the day’s fixtures and gives his Tuesday best bets and race-by-race selections.

BRIAN HEALY’S NAP OF THE DAY – TUESDAY 11 FEBRUARY

TUESDAY BEST BETS AT A GLANCE

1.50 Punchestown – FRONT VIEW (9/4, William Hill)
2.05 Chelmsford – NIGHT VOYAGER (2/1, William Hill)
2.25 Punchestown – PENCILFULOFLEAD (11/8, Ladbrokes)
3.15 Chelmsford – COTTONOPOLIS (11/4, William Hill)
4.00 Punchestown – CHEB DE KERVINIOU (11/1, Ladbrokes)
4.50 Newcastle – REMEMBER THE DAYS (3/1, William Hill)
5.50 Newcastle – RECKLESS ENDEAVOUR (4/1, William Hill)
7.20 Newcastle – BLOW YOUR HORN (15/8, William Hill)

PUNCHESTOWN

(1.50 Punchestown)

FRONT VIEW (9/4, William Hill) had the reopposing Cedarwood Road behind when scoring in a bumper here last April and Joseph O’Brien’s charge has looked a very smart prospect over hurdles in his two runs to date.

The Konig Turf gelding chased home but was no match for Envoi Allen at Down Royal on his hurdling debut back in November; but he showed the benefit of the experience to go one better next time out at Cork with a two lengths’ defeat of Untred who has since won a Listed bumper.

He won readily that day and while he possibly wants a longer trip than this two miles he is open to plenty of improvement and ought to make his presence felt returning from a couple of months off.

Punchestown races

Our Tuesday best bets features Punchestown which will be hoping to pass a Tuesday morning inspection.

(2.25 Punchestown)

PENCILFULOFLEAD (11/8, Ladbrokes) won a Down Royal bumper on his racecourse debut prior to posting a creditable fourth at Navan next time.

However, Gordon Elliott’s charge shaped really well over hurdles to chase home subsequent Grade One winner Asterion Forlonge on his first try over obstacles at Naas last month where although no match for the winner he did in turn pull seven lengths’ clear of the third.

That form has been significantly boosted and sure to improve further he could play a big part here and no surprise to see him get off the mark over hurdles at the second attempt.

(4.00 Punchestown)

CHEB DE KERVINIOU (11/1, Ladbrokes) showed fair form in France prior to pitching up at Gordon Elliott’s yard and although he’s winless for more than two years the Tiger Groom gelding could play a part here on just his third start for his new yard.

Runner-up on his debut for his new yard at Fairyhouse behind Biddy The Boss, he looked a tricky ride when last seen at this venue last month where he finished third of six runners behind Rocky’s Silver.

He gets in here on a featherweight while the booking of Rachael Blackmore catches the eye for this assignment. The further step up in trip looks a plus and the pair can combine for a big run where they could give last year’s winning trainer another win in this race.

1.20 – Yanworth
1.50 – Front View
2.25 – Pencilfulloflead
3.00 – Marshalled
3.30 – Dunvegan
4.00 – Cheb De Kerviniou
4.35 – Ferny Hollow

CHELMSFORD TIPS

(2.05 Chelmsford)

NIGHT VOYAGER (2/1, William Hill) looked very much in need of the experience when finishing sixth on his debut at Lingfield last month; but James Tate’s charge can build on that first run to do better here.

The Dandy Man colt was beaten around four lengths in that debut effort behind Too Shy Shy, racing wide and not ideally placed before running on late. That experience won’t have been lost on him and he could build on that first effort to get off the mark at the second attempt.

His debut was a messy race where they went only a steady gallop before the contest developed into a sprint and he can progress so no surprise to see him prove a different proposition now.

(3.15 Chelmsford)

COTTONOPOLIS (11/4, William Hill) appeared to relish the step up to ten furlongs when finding only one too strong at Lingfield latest, beaten just over one length behind Arabescato. Mark Johnston’s charge could improve again over this trip to open his account.

The Ruler Of The World colt battled on well once headed without quite being able to match the winner; but he was giving away plenty of weight and he’s only 1lb higher in the ratings for this latest outing.

He can progress again and unexposed over this longer trip then he can get off the mark.

1.35 – Indian Affair
2.05 – Night Voyager
2.40 – Elusif
3.15 – Cottonopolis
3.45 – Tone The Barone
4.15 – Social City

NEWCASTLE TIPS

(4.50 Newcastle)

REMEMBER THE DAYS (3/1, William Hill) ran poorly here last month over a shorter trip, failing to beat a rival when equipped with first-time cheekpieces. The headgear is quickly removed for this latest run which sees the Kyllachy gelding step up markedly in distance.

Jedd O’Keeffe’s charge hasn’t tasted success on the flat since scoring over ten furlongs at Ayr back in May 2018 although he has since won over hurdles at Doncaster in the December of that year.

He may have found the trip too sharp last time out, but this two miles trip could see him in a better light and having been dropped 2lbs in the weights he is handicapped to go close on his best form. He could be worth chancing then to post an improved effort back over the longer distance and he can go close.

(5.50 Newcastle)

RECKLESS ENDEAVOUR (4/1, William Hill) got back to winning ways over this course and distance on his penultimate start, beating Wasntexpectingthat by one length. David Barron’s charge however was unable to back up that effort under a penalty, beating only one home at Lingfield on his next start.

The Kodiac gelding usually runs well on tapeta and he’s posted arguably his best form on this surface. His last run was a shade disappointing, but while he holds no secrets from the handicpper he is capable of exploiting this mark on his best form.

The slow pace was probably against him latest, but this is likely to be run at a better pace and he could be worth chancing to bounce back.

Jockey Hayley Turner prior to the Darley Stakes

Hayley Turner can ride a Newcastle winner on Tuesday evening and land the NAP for our Tuesday best bets through the card.

(7.20 Newcastle)

BLOW YOUR HORN (15/8, William Hill) shaped nicely on his debut at this venue last month, finding only Union too strong by a shade under two lengths.

Charlie Fellowes’ Golden Horn colt was keen early and looked in need of the experience; but he did some good late work, keeping on well for the silver medal and the lessons learned from that first effort won’t have been lost on him.

This extra furlong could unlock further improvement and every chance he can go one better under Hayley Turner.

4.20 – Nataleena
4.50 – Remember The Days
5.20 – Happy Face
5.50 – Reckless Endeavour
6.20 – Coast Ofalfujairah
6.50 – Lua De Mel
7.20 – Blow Your Horn
7.50 – Etikaal
