Friday 5 February horse racing best bets
With four meetings heading to post across the UK on Friday we’ve picked out our horse racing best bets and tips at each fixture.
Friday’s fixture list of horse racing action takes in four meetings across the UK assuming that Chepstow’s scheduled jumps card passes a morning inspection. If racing at the Welsh venue goes ahead it will join Catterick on the list of Friday jumps racing fixtures.
Away from the jumps Friday’s all-weather racing in the afternoon comes from the polytrack at Lingfield, while Newcastle race in the evening under the floodlights on their tapeta surface.
We’ve looked over all four of the day’s scheduled racecards to pick out our Friday horse racing best bets and tips at each fixture.
FRIDAY HORSE RACING BEST BETS – TIPS FOR CATTERICK, CHEPSTOW, LINGFIELD & NEWCASTLE
1:10 Lingfield – Bombardier “March To Your Own Drum” Claiming Stakes Cl6 (4yo+) 7f
UNFORGIVING MINUTE has a 50% strike-rate over course and distance and the veteran Cape Cross gelding can get back to winning ways here.
Sean Curran’s charge scored his last success just two runs ago when scoring by a half-length over Lequinto over course and distance and he wasn’t seen to best effect when slightly disappointing latest at Wolverhampton where he was outpaced and given too much to do.
That overall form though is fair and he could quickly bounce back returned to this course and distance where he has won from higher in the past. Also dropping back into claiming company he has a good record under Adam Kirby who is back in the saddle for this outing and the pair can combine to go close.
2:00 Catterick – kingmakerracedays.co.uk Celebrate Mary Harle’s 101st Birthday Handicap Hurdle (Series Qualifier) Cl3 (4yo+ 0-125) 3m1½f
BIG PENNY has been in good form since joining this yard, yet to to finish out of the frame and recording a brace of victories at Perth and Lingfield prior to a very good second behind Corinto when last seen back at Lingfield in December.
Laura Morgan’s charge possibly found that trip too sharp given her two previous wins had come over this sort of distance and the Oscar mare should appreciate returning to a more thorough test of stamina.
The form of her latest run is working out with the third horse home since winning two of his next three starts and there could be more to come from her now equipped with a visor for the first time while Ben Jones is good value for his claim and another big run wouldn’t come as a surprise here back up in distance for this latest outing.
2:20 Chepstow – Free Horse Racing Tips At tipstersempire.co.uk Novices’ Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl4 (5yo+ 0-120) 2m7½f
TERRIERMAN showed some solid form over hurdles during last campaign which included scoring at Southwell on his second start and Dan Skelton’s charge has carried on the good work switched to chasing.
Having probably needed his reappearance at Uttoxeter last October he chased home Cool Destination subsequently at Market Rasen and was then possibly just stretched by the longer trip of the Lincolnshire National where he faded into seventh after making a number of mistakes.
This represents an easier class of contest and the Getaway gelding may be worth chancing to bounce back faced with the less demanding opposition and drop in distance so it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him running well again for his in-form yard.
2:30 Catterick – Meetings That Matter On Racing TV Mares’ Handicap Chase (Challenger Mares’ Chase Series Qualifier) Cl3 (5yo+ 0-130) 3m1f
Three-time hurdles winner CARROLLS MILAN has taken well to chasing, chasing home the useful Not That Fuisse on her chase debut and then scoring at Uttoxeter on her next start although she was a shade fortunate.
The Milan mare faced a stiff task on her latest start behind Magic Of Light in a Listed contest at Newbury, finishing last of the three runners but she’ll appreciate the return to this easier company and her mark looks fair switching to a handicap for the first time.
Conor Brace can also claim a handy 3lbs off her back and there could be more to come from her given her unexposed profile over fences. This longer trip shouldn’t present an issue given she won over further over hurdles and she can give a good account here.
3:20 Chepstow – Free Horse Racing Tips At tipstersempire.co.uk Handicap Chase Cl4 (5yo+ 0-120) 3m2f
HOLDBACKTHERIVER won this race twelve months ago and can successfully defend for Evan Williams.
The Presenting gelding struck by a neck in this contest last term from only 2lbs higher and having run well on his reappearance over shorter at Ffos Las he stepped up to finish less than four lengths’ fifth to Findusatgorcombe in a gruelling contest at Exeter.
That was a stronger race than this and the form has largely held up well with the winner since finishing runner-up in a decent contest at Wincanton while the runner-up has gone on to register a win at the same venue.
He’s been eased 1lb in the ratings following that last run and this is an easier task he faces, while the return of cheekpieces for this outing could help and he won his only other start in the headgear. It wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him turn in a big performance in this contest and he can get back on the scoresheet.
5:15 Newcastle – Bombardier Golden Beer Handicap Cl6 (4yo+ 0-65) 1m
BROCTUNE RED has been in good form of late, winning two of his last six starts including latest over course and distance and Gillian Boanas’ charge can follow up.
The Haafhd gelding has two wins and two efforts in the frame from five starts over this course and distance and he can reverse form with reopposing Dramatista from two runs ago where he was run down late by Roger Fell’s charge.
He quickly got back on track when scoring by three lengths late last month, beating Absolute Dream and he escapes a penalty for that success so is well-weighted here to quickly strike again under his good claimer.
