Friday racing best bets and tips for the day’s UK racemeetings

Another round of UK horse racing action awaits punters on Friday and there is action on the flat across the country; we’ve looked over all the day’s racing to pick out our Friday racing best bets and tips.

Friday plays host to another busy day of UK horse racing action around the country where five meetings go to post on the flat and 37 races in all will unfold across the day’s meetings.

The afternoon racing on the level comes from the cards at Newbury, Haydock and Nottingham; while in the evening the flat racing continues on the July Course at Newmarket and also north of the border at Hamilton where there is Listed action.

We’ve looked over all five of the day’s fixtures going to post to pick out our Friday racing best bets and tips at each meeting.

1:15 Haydock – Watch On Racing TV Handicap (Jockey Club Grassroots Flat Stayers Series Qualifier) Cl4 (4yo+ 0-85) 1m6f

STEEL AN ICON has taken his form up a level since switching to handicaps on turf, yet to finish out of the first two and registering four wins from six starts since May.

Mick Channon’s charge struck the last of those victories at Nottingham in June and he was subsequently beaten just a nose by Flower Of Scotland when last seen at this venue earlier in the month, run down late by the winner.

A 4lbs rise for that win does demand a shade more but he’s one who is going the right way and likely to remain competitive he can make his presence felt here.

2:45 Newbury – bet365 Fillies’ Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-100) 1m5½f

MILITARY TWO STEP had looked potentially useful in winning and finishing runner-up in his first two starts before tackling a much deeper race at Chester and finishing sixth to Side Shot where he wasn’t helped by meeting trouble in running.

The form of that race has worked out and the Jukebox Jury filly bounced back quickly to resume winning ways back on the Roodeye when stepped up in trip, running out a ready winner with a wide margin victory over Deluxe Music.

Mark Johnston’s charge is turned out under a penalty but he could be ahead of his mark and further improvement back up in class can be expected so every chance he can strike again here.

3:20 Newbury – Ire Incentive, It Pays To Buy Irish Rose Bowl Stakes Cl1 (2yo) 6f

BOSH is going the right way and chasing a hat-trick here following earlier victories at York and over course and distance, running out a ready winner latest over American Star.

Richard Hannon’s charge travelled well into that contest before asserting and winning with somethign to spare so this step up in class may not faze him and he is open to further improvement where he could land a third successive win.

The form of his earlier York victory has seen the runner-up and fourth both win since and with the potential for better still to come he can strike again to land the three-timer.

4:50 Nottingham – MansionBet Extra Places Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 1m½f

SURPRISE PICTURE has improved with each start this term, only once finishing out of the frame and scoring latest at Yarmouth when beating My Swallow by two lengths; Hugo Palmer’s charge might be worth chancing to follow up here.

The Kodiac gelding ran out a comfortable winner that day, going away at the finish and while the handicapper has hit him with a 5lbs rise for that success the manner of the victory suggests there’s likely better to come from him and if turning out in similar form then there’d be no surprise in seeing him going close here.

6:55 Hamilton – Heineken UK Handicap Cl4 (3yo+ 0-80) 5f

VENTURA FLAME has been kept busy this term but her form shows no sign of plateauing and having won well over course and distance two runs ago – her second of the season – she lost no caste in defeat latest when beaten less than one length into second by Show Me Show Me.

Keith Dalgleish’s charge couldn’t hold off the thrust of the winner late on to whom he was giving 5lbs with the latter being claimer ridden; but the pair had pulled four lengths clear of the third who has won since and while she’s up in the weights for this latest outing she ought to continue to make her presence felt.

7:50 Newmarket – Rich Energy Two Drinks One Taste Handicap Cl4 (3yo 0-85) 5f

CLARENDON HOUSE appeared not to handle the soft ground at Windsor earlier in the month when thwarted in a hat-trick attempt but back on better ground here the Mehmas colt can quickly resume winning ways.

Robert Cowell’s charge had won both previous outings at Yarmouth and Bath respectively, the latter by nine lengths prior to taking a step up in grade to contest his last run where he finished around four lengths’ fourth behind A Sure Welcome.

Racing freely on the soft ground was a viable excuse for his below par run and he can do better here now he’s back on quicker ground and he’s worth another chance off this mark easing back in class.

8:20 Newmarket – British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies’ Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-95) 6f

GALE FORCE MAYA has shown her best form in small fields and it might be worth chancing on the Gale Force Ten mare to get back to winning ways having had excuses when last seen at Thirsk.

Michael Dods’ charge had won at Doncaster in April and she met all sorts of trouble in that latest run where she was beaten around ten lengths by Rathbone, eventually beating only one home.

That run is readily over looked and she might be worth considering on her earlier exploits this season where she can bounce back to form taking on just five rivals.
