Goodwood Jockey In Focus – Jim Crowley

Jim Crowley’s Top Chances At Goodwood This Week

Jim Crowley continues to ride in sensational form, operating at a healthy 30% strike rate in recent weeks. The jockey will hope to ride his fair share of winners at Glorious Goodwood this week and here at Racing Tips, we’ve delved into the entries and highlighted his best chances of success.

Baaeed (Wednesday, Qatar Sussex Stakes 15:35) 1/6

Jim Crowley has three rides on Wednesday afternoon and all eyes will be on the jockey as he partners William Haggas’ unbeaten miler BAAEED for the seventh time.

Unbeaten so far, the son of Sea The Stars is arguably one of the hottest properties in the sport and has continued to wow spectators in his two outings this season. Returning at Newbury in May, Baaeed maintained his unbeaten record with another scintillating display when triumphing in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes – producing a performance that drew a comparison to that of the mighty Frankel after pulling effortlessly clear of his eight toiling rivals on the run to the line.

Sent off at prohibitive odds once more when lining up in the opening Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot on his most recent start, William Haggas’ superstar miler made it eight wins from eight starts with another faultless performance, stretching effortlessly clear of his six rivals under hands and heels riding to register his fourth Group 1 victory. With 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace winner Coroebus a late absentee on Wednesday afternoon, Baaeed should have little trouble in extending his unbeaten run to nine on Wednesday afternoon.

Baaeed should be able to extend his unbeaten run at Goodwood this week.

Royal Scotsman (Thursday, Richmond Stakes 14:25) 15/8

Jim Crowley was on board when ROYAL SCOTSMAN strode effortlessly to victory over course and distance back in May and will have high hopes for Paul & Oliver Cole’s two-year-old as he lines up in Group 2 Richmond Stakes on Thursday afternoon.

Last seen contesting the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at the Royal meeting last month, the Gleneagles colt deserves enormous credit for finishing third after racing keenly behind subsequent July Stakes winner Persian Force and Archie Watson’s unbeaten sprinting star Bradsell.

Returning to Goodwood this week, it would be no surprise to see Royal Scotsman return to winning ways after that encouraging effort in defeat at Royal Ascot and the two-year-old can provide the jockey with another notable winner.

Royal Scotsman (pink & green) ran an eyecatching race when last seen at Royal Ascot.

She’s Hot (Thursday, Tatler EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes 17:20) 11/2

It could turn out to be red letter day for jockey, trainer and owner on Thursday as SHE’S HOT appears to have a live chance in the concluding contest on Thursday afternoon.

An eye-catching second on her debut over five furlongs at Kempton in March, Paul & Oliver Cole’s filly was pitched into deep company following 76 days away from the track when lining up in the Group 3 Albany Stakes over a furlong further last month. Not knocked about inside the closing stages on that occasion, She’s Hot was far from disgraced when crossing the line in midfield and is evidently held in high regard at home.

Returning to maiden company on Thursday, She’s Hot should be able to put her experience to good use as he takes on a host of unraced fillies and while it’s possible one or two in here could be well-above average, Paul & Oliver Cole’s charge has already shown a decent level of form and connections will be confident she can make it third time lucky under Jim Crowley.

She’s Hot was far from disgraced in the Group 3 Albany Stakes last time out.

Reshoun (Friday, Coral Goodwood Handicap 13:50) 7/1

Carrying top weight certainly won’t be easy here but this could be all about Ian Williams’ eight-year-old RESHOUN, who has returned to form in his recent outings on track and should be capable of going close once more following his recent victory at Newbury.

A smart stayer on his day, Reshoun ran an eye-catching race just three starts back in the Ascot Stakes, staying on stoutly inside the final furlong to finish fifth behind Andrew Balding’s subsequent Listed winner Coltrane. Returning to Ascot just four days later, Ian Williams’ charge again ran a cracking race in defeat this time in the Queen Alexandra Stakes. Launching his challenge inside the final furlong, the eight-year-old appeared to have the race in the bag before last year’s winner Stratum swooped to the front on the run to the line.

Following his cosy victory at Newbury last time out, it would be no surprise if Reshoun lands another valuable handicap for connections on Friday afternoon given his recent return to form and he appears to be the one they all have to beat.

Reshoun (grey) was a convincing winner at Newbury earlier this month.
