Brian Healy looks over the latest UK and Irish horse racing action where he gives his free Monday horse racing betting tips and best bets for every race going to post.

Following Storm Chiara washing out all three of Sunday’s scheduled UK and Irish fixtures, a further trio of meetings were on the agenda although the bad weather has already claimed Catterick’s jumps card leaving Plumpton as the only jumps racing fixture; while all-weather action comes from Wolverhampton in the evening on their tapeta surface.

However, it is fingers crossed for Plumpton’s card with a Monday morning inspection called for the East Sussex track.

Plumpton (jumps) – 2.15 – 4.45pm (6 races)
Wolverhampton (flat, aw) – 4.35 – 8.10pm (8 races)

Brian Healy gives his Monday horse racing tips and best bets for both meetings going to post.

2.45 Plumpton – THE FLYING SOFA (9/4, Bet365)
3.15 Plumpton – PARICOLOR (13/2, Unibet)
3.45 Plumpton – WENCESLAUS (7/4, Ladbrokes)
5.05 Wolverhampton – BARBELO (3/1, Bet365)
5.40 Wolverhampton – GLEN COCO (5/1, Coral)
6.10 Wolverhampton – CLAP YOUR HANDS (5/4, William Hill)

(2.45 Plumpton)

THE FLYING SOFA (9/4, Bet365) has done his winning on a better surface than he encounters here, but Gary Moore’s charge showed he can handle more testing ground with a good third behind Greaneteen in a decent contest at Ascot on his penultimate start.

The Sholokhov gelding then got back to winning ways with a first chase success at Fakenham last month and he can double up here. He scored by a battling half-length that day over Eskendash although the sharp nature of that track perhaps didn’t play to his strengths.

He has a good record here however, placing twice and winning over hurdles, and with the form of his earlier third at Ascot having since been franked he could well prove the answer in a contest where he gets weight all round.

PARICOLOR (13/2, Unibet) wasn’t seen to best effect when finishing third at Market Rasen on Boxing Day, but David Pipe’s charge had won his previous two starts at Fakenham and Sedgefield and might be able to bounce back to winning form.

A fair flat performer in France, the Orpen gelding looked useful in despatching rivals at Fakenham by nine lengths prior to following up under a penalty next time. He was beaten almost twenty lengths last time, but he possibly is more at home going left-handed having ran poorly on both visits to Market Rasen; while he was a faller at Wincanton.

His form on left-handed tracks over hurdles reads 211 so he could be worth giving another chance having been dropped 1lb in the weights while a good amateur can take a further 7lbs off his back so no surprise if he were to do better this time.

(3.45 Plumpton)

WENCESLAUS (7/4, Ladbrokes) is 3-4 over fences, scoring his latest success over this course and distance two weeks ago, and the Tiger Hill gelding can follow up.

David Bridgwater’s charge ran out a near ten lengths’ winner over Scaramuccito despite carrying a big weight in heavy ground, and he is 3-4 at the East Sussex track so he looks to have plenty in his favour here despite the handicapper reacting with a 10lbs rise in the weights for that latest success.

But he looked to have more in the locker and likely to progress again he could defy his rise in the weights to strike again with conditions again in his favour.

2.15 – Calva D’Auge
2.45 – The Flying Sofa
3.15 – Paricolor
3.45 – Wenceslaus
4.15 – Age Of Wisdom
4.45 – Lady Chartreuse

(5.05 Wolverhampton)

BARBELO (3/1, Bet365) surely needed the experience when failing to beat a rival home at this venue last October, but following a break Richard Spencer’s charge has finished third in both of her starts since.

Beaten two lengths over six furlongs here in January, the Dark Angel filly possibly found fibresand too testing next time when beaten five lengths behind Mews House when dropped to the minimum trip at Southwell.

She didn’t aid her chances with a slow start but she could do better back on this quicker surface with the step up in trip a possible source of improvement. A mark of 67 looks workable on her handicap debut while the services of the in-form Hollie Doyle is a plus to her chances and she could progress here to get off the mark.

(5.40 Wolverhampton)

GLEN COCO (5/1, Coral) is given another chance having ran a shade below his best at Kempton latest. However, the Aussie Rules gelding could bounce back returned to this venue where he has won before.

Stuart Williams’ charge hasn’t struck paydirt since going in at Newmarket last May, landing his fourth win on the spin during a purple patch which also saw him win twice at Chelmsford as well as at Kempton.

He is still unexposed on tapeta, but he could have more to offer on this surface and he remains with handicapping scope having won from 1lb higher mark last term. He could post a better effort here and no surprise to see him involved.

CLAP YOUR HANDS (5/4, William Hill) is thriving at present, winning for the third straight occasion when successful over shorter at this venue last month. David Simcock’s charge ran out a five lengths’ winner on that occasion over Flat To The Max where he was running under a penalty.

He had also won at Chelmsford and back here prior to that ready success and the Universal gelding doesn’t appear to have reached the end of his improvement with this further step up in trip likely to suit given he wasn’t stopping at the end of 1m 6f latest.

His new mark has kicked in so he’ll need to progress again; but he likely has better to come and can land another win with the stiffer test of stamina unlikely to faze him.
