HORSE RACING THURSDAY BEST BETS – TIPS FOR THE DAY’S FIXTURES AROUND THE UK
2:25 Goodwood – Unibet Richmond Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings) Cl1 (2yo) 6f
ASYMMETRIC has looked a smart prospect in winning back-to-back over course and distance on debut and then winning readily at Newmarket prior to getting to within a head of Lusail in the Group Two July Stakes on his last start, finding only that rival too good.
Perhaps the quicker ground was just against Alan King’s charge on that occasion but there was no caste lost in defeat as he just failed to hold off the strong late thrust of the winnner.
There could be more to come from him and the return to a softer surface shouldn’t hold any fears for the Showcasing colt who can continue to improve and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he were to get back to winning ways in this Group Two contest.
2:45 Stratford – We Are IDP Mares’ Handicap Hurdle Cl3 (3yo+ 0-125) 2m½f
SOLSTALLA won for this column when landing her hat-trick at Worcester earlier in the month and the Halling mare can continue her good spell of form by going in again here.
David Weston’s charge had won earlier contests at Newton Abbot and Southwell before cosily holding off Long Call for the three-timer latest and the form of that run has been done no harm with the runner-up and third horses home both running well since for respective silver medal finishes in their next starts.
She’s only been pushed up 2lbs for that latest effort and she ought to go well again here with course and distance winning form to her name and given she’s in the form of her life at present she looks worth sticking with.
3:00 Goodwood – John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo) 1m4f
THIRD REALM is given another chance having shaped well enough despite meeting defeat in the Epsom Derby where the Sea The Stars colt finished fifth behind Adayar.
Roger Varian’s charge had won his two previous starts including the Lingfield Derby Trial on soft ground prior to his Classic tilt where he was keen early and found himself outpaced before rallying well although he had no chance with the winner.
That form though is very strong and he had beaten the Epsom Derby hero in that earlier Lingfield run so he’s very capable at his best of going close here and he could prove better than he ultimately showed in the colts’ Classic.
There’d be no surprise to see him bouncing back here back on proper soft ground and easing back in grade where he can resume winning ways.
3:10 Nottingham – MansionBet Betstival Bet 10 Get 20 Novice Median Auction Stakes Cl6 (3-5yo) 1m½f
IMPERIAL EIGHT shaped with promise on debut at Hamilton two weeks ago, lacking experience late on but finishing only a half-length behidn Gainsbourg with the pair clear and David O’Meara’s charge can build on that first run to go one better here.
The Lawman filly finished off the race well having not enjoyed the best of runs, but she likely bumped into a decent rival and with that under her belt can put the lessons learned to good use and get off the mark at the second attempt.
6:25 Newcastle – William Hill Pick Your Places Racing League Race One (Handicap) (Horses Registered To Racing League) Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 5f
FAUSTUS arrives here in good form and Robert Cowell’s charge can follow up his latest victory at Lingfield in soft ground where the Mayson gelding ran out a comfortable winner from Lethal Blast.
He had placed on his two previous outings at Nottingham and Newmarket in a much stronger race behind Isle Of Lismore and he won his only previous start on tapeta so looks to have plenty going for him here despite a 5lbs rise in the weights.
There may yet be more to come from him and he looks progressive so can make his presence felt in this contest and he looks worth chancing to run a big race.
7:05 Epsom – British Stallion Studs EBF Restricted Novice Stakes (For Horses In Bands A, B, C And D) (GBB Race) Cl4 (2yo) 7f
ROYAL PATRONAGE stepped up on his debut fifth to find only one too good at Sandown latest and Mark Johnston’s charge can improve again to get off the mark here.
The Wootton Bassett colt had shaped well in that first run behind The Organiser at York which represents some decent form; he showed the benefit of that experience to finish runner-up latest behind Native Trail who has since won a Group Two and there could be better to come from him with further experience under his belt.
He made most of the running that day, leading early until headed inside the last furlong and he might be hard to catch from the front again at a track which often favours those on the front end so no surprise if he were to open his account at the third attempt.
7:35 Epsom – British EBF Fifinella Fillies’ Handicap Cl4 (3yo+ 0-80) 7f
IMPROVISED has looked a potentially smart sort in reeling off a brace of victories at Ripon and Catterick respectively and David O’Meara’s charge can bring up the hat-trick here.
The Raven’s Pass filly had run well on debut but stepped up on that experience where she was a ready winner latest from Dulla Bhatti, scoring by two lengths and now making her debut in a handicap there could be better to come from her where she might have been let in on a lenient opening mark.
With further progression to come there’d be no surprise in seeing her win again and she can land the hat-trick here.
7:55 Newcastle – William Hill Build Your Odds Racing League Race Four (Handicap) (Horses Registered To Racing League) Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 1m
FLYIN’ HIGH is taken to bounce back to winning form having found Listed company too much to handle last time out where the Siyouni colt finished last of five behind John Leeper at Newmarket in May.
That was his first time trying ten furlongs and the longer trip might also have stretched him so it is perhaps no surprise to see Andrew Balding’s charge dropping back to one mile here.
The form of that last run looks solid and he’s a dual course and distance winner so can quickly bounce back returning to this surface and trip switching to a handicap where he could be on a handy mark.
