HORSE RACING TIPS FOR WEDNESDAY – BEST BETS FOR THE DAY’S FLAT & JUMPS ACTION
3:05 Bath – EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race) Cl5 (2yo) 5f
RUM COCKTAIL stepped up on a promising debut to get off the mark at the second attempt, scoring at Newmarket and with more improvement to come the Muhaarar filly can follow up.
Clive Cox’s charge had finished fifth in her debut at Sandown and she improved for the experience to get the better of Sense Of Duty latest where the front two pulled clear.
That runner-up has won since and with further progress expected she can go in again despite having to give away weight all round due to being penalised for that victory.
3:15 Nottingham – Kier Construction Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-90) 1m2f
LEGENDARY DAY was surely amiss when beating only two home at Hamilton back in August and given a break since it might be worth chancing Hughie Morrison’s charge to bounce back returning to the scene of his first career win.
The Adaay colt ran out a ready winner that day from Cosmos Raj to get off the mark after which he followed up at Leicester, beating Urban War by three lengths and although thwarted in his hat-trick attempt at Newmarket in July he did run another solid race in third behind Path Of Thunder.
For whatever reason he failed to fire at Hamilton last time, but given his previous progression he could quickly rebound and he’s worth another chance.
3:23 Wetherby – Bobby Renton Handicap Chase Cl3 (4yo+ 0-140) 2m3½f
WHOSHOTTHESHERIFF won twice over fences from six starts last term, beating a useful yardstick in Evander at Catterick in March before finding a Grade Two contest too much at Ayr in April behind Allmankind.
Phil Kirby’s Dylan Thomas gelding makes his return to action from six months off, but he has gone well in the past when fresh and is 2lbs lower in the weights for this assignment than when finishing third to Ibleo at Doncaster in January.
There could be more to come from him this season and it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he were to make a winning return assuming he’s fully wound up ahead of his reappearance.
4:15 Bath – British Stallion Studs EBF Beckford Stakes (Listed Race) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m6f
URBAN ARTIST could be worth chancing to get back on the scoresheet and the Cityscape mare ought to find this easier than the Group Two contest she took in last time.
Hughie Morrison’s charge was a three-time winner last term, one of which was a valuable handicap at Newmarket and she subsequently found only one too good in this race twelve months ago on her final outing of the campaign.
She hasn’t managed to add to her tally this term but she had made the frame on all three starts prior to stepping up in grade at Doncaster latest, finishing sixth, and she’ll certainly find this level more suitable having failed to cut much ice last time.
On her form to date this term she looks the one to beat and while yet to win over this far she’s the highest rated in the field and should make her presence felt.
4:25 Nottingham – Persimmon Homes Handicap Cl4 (3yo+ 0-85) 5f
RAASEL arrives here in good form and chasing a hat-trick of wins and the Showcasing gelding can oblige punters.
Michael Appleby’s charge has improved this term back on turf following a break and the application of a hood, winning at Goodwood and over course and distance in the space of seven days, latterly running out a ready winner despite the relatively narrow margin of victory.
He’s been pushed up 5lbs for that but remains with scope for better and he should make his presence felt again here in pursuit of the three-timer.
6:30 Kempton – Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Nursery Handicap Cl4 (2yo 0-85) 1m
CARBON has bettered his finishing position with each start and shown improved form with every run, getting off the mark at the fourth attempt when going in at Leicester last month.
The Kodiac colt switches to the handicap ranks now where a mark of 81 might underestimate him given he remains open to plenty of further scope and there’d be no surprise in seeing Roger Varian’s charge firmly in the mix for all this looks a decent little race on paper.
The step up to one mile ought to suit and he ought to be involved here.
