Irish Horse Racing Tips – Best Bets on Leopardstown’s Thursday Card
Leopardstown Horse Racing Tips – Thursday, June 2
The action in Ireland on Thursday centres around Leopardstown’s seven-race Flat card, which features the Listed King George V Cup. Our Irish horse racing expert has identified his top bets on the day which you can check out below.
Patrick Sarsfield (6.15 Leopardstown) 13/8
Cadillac is expected to go off favourite for the Glencairn Stakes at Leopardstown on Thursday, yet he faces a course specialist here in PATRICK SARSFIELD, who is the better value at the prices.
Joseph O’Brien’s 6yo is a perfect 2-2 over this course and distance, the latest success coming in Group 3 company when running out a 2l winner.
His losing run since is at ten, but Patrick Sarsfield has mostly campaigned at higher levels than this and has shaped with promise in both starts so far this season, finishing fourth at Naas before a third in the Amethyst Stakes Group 3 here over a mile.
Going up a furlong in trip looks a good move for Patrick Sarsfield, and he meets Georgeville (fourth in the Amethyst) on 3lb better terms, so should be capable of confirming the form. Regular pilot Declan McDonogh is doing the steering, and Joseph O’Brien took this prize 12 months ago, so there appears plenty in Patrick Sarsfield’s favour here.

Boundless Ocean (7.20 Leopardstown) 7/4
Aidan O’Brien has taken three of the last six renewals of the King George V Cup and he relies on Cork maiden winner Martinstown to enhance that record here.
Although the Jim Bolger yard is going through something of a quiet spell, however, BOUNDLESS OCEAN rates the one to be with here.
This Teofilo colt was deemed good enough to contest the 2000 Guineas on penultimate run, and although outclassed in that assignment he shaped better when third dropped into Group 3 company at the Curragh last time – that despite enduring absolutely no luck in running.
Boundless Ocean has long shaped like a horse who would appreciate stepping up to middle distances, which he does here, and granted a clearer passage he should make his presence felt.

Highland King (8.20 Leopardstown)
The Bulmers Secret Orchard Live At Leopardstown Handicap is a wide-open affair and Lost, off a rating of just 59, must be the lowest-rated horse in Aidan O’Brien’s stable, but having failed to beat a rival home the last twice, being beaten over 30l on each occasion, he comes with plenty of risks attached.
A chance instead is taken on HIGHLAND KING, a four-race maiden but a horse who has been contesting races won by the likes of Star Of India and Stone Age. This gelding was given far too much to do at Gowran last time but did pass rivals late on. It was his start prior, however, when seventh to Derby hopeful Stone Age which caught the eye.
Highland King was still within an outside shot of a top-four finish that day before being badly hampered a furlong and a half out.
Two of the horses that finished around Highland King that day have won since and the run suggests that he could be well treated here handicapping off an opening mark of 69, particularly when his pedigree includes Group 1 winners Linngari and Pyledriver.
