IRISH HORSE RACING TIPS – THURSDAY TIPS FOR DOWN ROYAL

12:15 Down Royal – I.N.H. Stallion Owners EBF Maiden Hurdle (4yo+) 2m4f

Joseph O’Brien saddles two in this contest and FUN LIGHT can make a winning reappearance under Denis O’Regan.

The Saddler Maker hinted at ability at Fairyhouse twelve months ago in a bumper, eventually finishing seventh behind Eric Bloodaxe and that form looks all the stronger given each of the six who finished ahead of him have all gone on to win including the runner-up who won the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival.

He also had two winners behind him and he offered plenty to work on when making his hurdling debut during last season’s Leopardstown Christmas Festival where he finished four lengths behind The Bosses Oscar.

That form too has been boosted with the third horse home winning three from five subsequently while the winner and fifth have also registered subsequent wins. He could put up a bold show on his reappearance and while he does give up race fitness his form stacks up well and he can get off the mark.

12:45 Down Royal – Connolly’s RED MILLS Irish EBF Auction Maiden Hurdle (4yo+) 2m1f

FEELGOOD ISLAND has yet to open his account but the No Risk At All has shown some ability and he turned in a very good effort on his reappearance at Tramore on his seasonal return back in October where he finished seventh behind Gabbys Cross.

Elizabeth Doyle’s charge was in the process of running well and might have won but for falling two out at Clonmel latest and that form looks decent with the runner-up and fourth both going on to bag silver medals in their respective next outings.

Assuming that fall hasn’t dented confidence then he could be capable of bouncing back and if none the worse then it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him going close here.

1:45 Down Royal – Adam & Ann Armstrong Memorial Irish EBF Beginners Chase (4yo+) 2m4f

WHEREYOUNOW has some solid winning form to call upon from his time over hurdles and the Carlotamix gelding shaped well on his chase debut at Clonmel earlier this month over what appeared a trip short of his best when finishing runner-up behind Epson Du Houx.

Beaten around eight lengths on that occasion Rodger Sweeney’s charge ought to benefit from this longer trip and that experience will likely stand him in good stead where he can improve to go one better.

3:30 Down Royal – Bluegrass Horse Feeds (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race (4-7yo) 2m1f

ENNISKERRY has shaped with some promise in his two bumper starts to date where he’s finished runner-up both times and the Jeremy gelding can get off the mark at the third attempt.

Barry Connell’s charge was bumped into the useful Letsbeclearaboutit on both those defeats which have come at Tipperary and Punchestown respectively, beaten eight lengths on the latter occasion but he probably won’t meet anything of the calibre of Gavin Cromwell’s charge and he should go close with a repeat of that run where Patrick Mullins come in for the ride.

A first-time tongue-tie could also help elicit some improvement and he can get off the mark at the third attempt where he likely faces an easier task than his last two outings.
