IRISH RACING BEST BETS – BALLINROBE TIPS ON FRIDAY OVER THE STICKS
4:25 Ballinrobe – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Maiden Hurdle (5yo+) 2m2f
COTTIE is a low-mileage sort over hurdles but has shown enough in her limited starts to suggest she can pick up a race and it might be worth chancing Henry De Bromhead’s charge to get off the mark here.
The Yeats mare boasts some useful bumper form and she’s finished in the frame in three of her five hurdles starts to date, the latest coming when third to Wojood at Tramore last month where she was only beaten one length.
That form was boosted when the runner-up scored next time out and the selection could yet have some more progress to come stepping up in trip here and a repeat of that last run should make her competitive again.
5:00 Ballinrobe – Burkes Clonbur Handicap Hurdle (4yo+ 80-116) 2m6f
LET HER FLOW has shown better form following a switch to this yard and with blinkers applied, twice finishing runner-up and scoring at Bellewstown in July with a defeat of Presenting Cody.
Matthew Smith’s charge followed up that run with a good second over this course and distance behind Father Jed who runs later on the card, unable to sustain his effort to the line. However he has looked steadily progressive now and can find another chunk of improvement assuming the headgear continues to have a positive effect.
The Scorpion mare has only been nudged up 2lbs for that last run and she should continue to remain competitive so every chance she can go close here.
5:30 Ballinrobe – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Handicap Hurdle (4yo+) 2m6f
ABBEY MAGIC has a very decent record over fences and could be well treated returning to the smaller obstacles if bringing her chase form back over timber.
Henry De Bromhead’s charge is a multiple winner over fences, scoring her latest success at Galway in July and she subsequently ran well in defeat at Killarney when last seen finishing fourth behind Batcio.
She is a dual-winner over hurdles during a spell with her former handler but has been kept chasing by De Bromhead until now who turns the Beneficial mare back over hurdles from a very workable mark and with soft ground no issue she is expected to post a big run here if her chase form carries over.
6:00 Ballinrobe – P&D Lydon Beginners Chase (4yo+) 2m7f
SCARPETA was a very useful hurdler for Willie Mullins, winning three times and taking in some high-class contests including the 2019 Coral Cup and this year’s Galmoy Hurdle although he cut little ice in either.
He’s since joined Andrew McNamara having finished runner-up on his final run for Closutton when beaten into second by Darasso and now tackling fences the Soldier Of Fortune gelding could get back on the winning trail on his first attempt over the larger obstacles.
Both the winner and third from his last hurdles start have proved their mettle over fences and similarly if he takes to this new discipline then he has to be respected and no surprise to see him running well if he can produce something of his hurdles form over these obstacles.
