IRISH RACING BEST BETS ON SATURDAY – TIPS FOR WEXFORD & NAVAN
2:25 Navan – Troytown Bar Handicap (3yo+) 5f
ARNHEM has been a consistent operator this term, twice finishing in the frame at Down Royal in June and performing well in defeat despite being 5lbs out of the weights at the Curragh behind Urban Beat. However Natalia Lupini’s charge ran his best race of the season when finding only one too good back at the Curragh latest and a repeat of that might see the Dandy Man gelding get back to winning ways.
A winner at Dundalk last September he has held his form well this term and the form of that silver medal finish behind Provocateuse looks solid with both the winner and fourth-placed horses going in since.
He’s been dropped 1lb following that run and if continuing her current good spell of form ought to go close here and she can get back on the scoresheet.
2:45 Wexford – Wexford Mares Maiden Hurdle (4yo+) 3m
SWEET STREET has shown enough in his runs to date to suggest he can collect a winning prize before too much longer and Roger McGrath’s charge is taken to deliver a first win here.
The Sholokhov mare has improved her finishing position with each start this term, making the frame the last twice and finding only one too good in her last outing at Ballinrobe on the back of three months off.
While no match for the winner she had pulled clear of the third who was rated 106 and she shaped as if a stiffer test may be of benefit so this step up to three miles could suit and deliver some improvement.
3:00 Navan – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Premier Nursery Handicap (2yo) 5f
JARVIS could be worth another chance for the in-form Ger Lyons stable and the Profitable colt has been running better than his bare form figures suggest.
Runner-up at the Curragh on his handicap debut he faced an impossible task when racing on the wrong side of the track in the Ballyhane Stakes, finishing down the field behind Sacred Bridge having ploughed a lone furrow under the far rail which wasn’t the place to be in that race.
That form has been significantly boosted and he was only beaten four lengths latest back at the Curragh despite only finishing ninth behind Arch Enemy, travelling well for a long way before fading and possibly finding the run coming too soon.
He’s been given a bit more of a break between runs and having been eased 2lbs in the weights he could do better here dropping back to the minimum trip and he can make his presence felt.
3:55 Wexford – Garry Flood Landscapes Handicap Chase (4yo+ 0-109) 2m4f
BUTTONS AND BOWS hasn’t won for a while with her last victory coming over hurdles at this venue back in June 2019; Paul Flynn’s charge though could be worth chancing to end her losing streak here and the Flemensfirth mare is still relatively unexposed as a chaser despite a couple of lesser efforts in recent months.
She’s had just five starts in this sphere and failed to complete the last twice in outings at Clonmel and Limerick; but she shaped well back on the flat after three months off with a very good third behind Line Out at Tramore and if she can build on that performance back over fences then she can turn in a much improved effort.
The return to a longer trip over the larger obstacles could prove a catalyst for better and she is potentially well-treated off just 97 given she could still have more to offer as a chaser.
