BEST IRISH RACING BETS FOR FRIDAY – IRISH RACING TIPS AT CORK & DOWN ROYAL
5:15 Cork – Fermoy Handicap (Div I) (3yo+ 45-65) 6f
TAI SING YEH has hit the crossbar in his last couple of runs and this could be the day for Johnny Levins’ charge to get back on the scoresheet.
The Exceed and Excel gelding is winless in 18 since his last success at Ayr back in July 2019; however he has posted some solid runs in defeat since even if his overall form has been patchy. He hasn’t been beaten far in either of his last two runs at Down Royal and Fairyhouse and the drop back to six furlongs could see him resume winning ways.
He was less than two lengths’ adrift of Cactus Tree on his latest start, unable to sustain his effort to the line and the third from that race has won since so he looks to hold big claims here of ending his drought racing from the same mark.
5:35 Down Royal – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden (2yo) 7f
Three runs to date by ULTRAMARINE haven’t been devoid of promise and Joseph O’Brien’s charge can get off the mark now having gone close when last seen at Fairyhouse.
The Zoffany colt was beaten just a short-head on that occasion behind Hapipi Go Lucky where he was caught on the line by the winner with the front two pulling a couple of lengths clear of the rest.
He steps up a furlong in trip for this latest outing which could yield some improvement and with a good 3lbs claimer on board again it isn’t hard to make a case for him going close in this contest.
5:45 Cork – Fermoy Handicap (Div II) (3yo+ 45-65) 6f
PRETTY SMART struck her last success back in October last year when beating Ever Rock at Navan and it might be worth chancing on Philip Martin’s charge to end her losing streak here.
The Dandy Man mare has made the frame several times this term, never beaten by far and she ran better than the bare result when last seen finishing ninth at Fairyhouse to It’s All A Joke where she met with trouble in running before keeping on well.
A clear run would certainly have seen her finish a lot closer and with a little more luck in running she ought to make her presence felt here with Mikey Sheehy taking off a valuable 5lbs.
6:35 Down Royal – Her Majesty’s Plate (Listed Race) (3yo+) 1m5½f
MASTER OF REALITY can bounce back to winning form here and Joseph O’Brien’s charge could take some beating if returning to his best.
The Frankel gelding has won a Group Three earlier in his career for this yard and got to within one length of Stradivarius in the 2019 Ascot Gold Cup in a season that also saw him finish fourth in the Melbourne Cup.
He’s been fairly lightly raced since, only making the course five times last term which saw him finish runner-up in a Group Two at the Curragh and win this race twelve months ago from Barbados before another unsuccessful crack at the Melbourne Cup.
His last outing at Leopardstown was a shade disappointing given his promising return to action, but he could do better here having had more of a break and on historic form he ought to prove a tough nut to crack.
